The critics:
-
"Even if the ending doesn't entirely succeed, it doesn't cheat, and it comes at the end of an uncommonly absorbing movie."
Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
- "In some ways, this is the kind of bad movie only a talented filmmaker can make."
Mike Clark, USA today
- "By the time the film is over you may feel as if the 12 year old inside of you has been utterly wowed and that the adult is still going, 'Hmmmm...'"
Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly
My Jacksonometer:
4 out of 5. Lots of Jackson to admire here, including freaky haircut, strange outfits and archaic language. Strong acting from both Willis and Jackson, but the movie thrives on camera-work and atmosphere. The infamous final twist was perhaps less ingenious than in the Sixth Sense, but it had an impact nonetheless. Definitely worth watching.
