Georg Stanford Brown
'Grady' wasn't the first character Georg Stanford Brown played who had to deal with "the south's hateful system"; he played 'Tom Harvey', the great-grandson of LeVar Burton's 'Kunta Kinte' in Roots. The 1977 miniseries also starred Olivia Cole, Stan Shaw, and Lloyd Bridges, Brown's future North and South co-stars. (Bridges and Shaw were in Books II and III respectively, and didn't share any on-screen scenes with Brown.) He played 'Officer Terry Webster' in 1972's The Rookies' before either mini-series.
In 1986 Gerog won an Emmy in the category of Ourstanding Directing in a Drama Series for his episde of Cagney and Lacey entitled 'Parting Shots'. Sharon Gless also won an Emmy that year, but Brown's wife Tyne Daly had to wait until 1988 to get her Emmy.
Georg was married to Tyne for 25 years before divorcing in 1991. The couple have three daughters together, Alisabeth, Kathryne Dora, 27, (an actress who recently appeared in "The Tiger Woods Story"); and Alyxandra, 13. Georg was originally born in Cuba and currently lives in Los Angeles, California.
