"Disneyland will never stop growing." Those powerful words still ring true after 45 years. Many rides have come and gone. People Mover, The Mine Train, Swiss Family Robinson Tree House and many others. It hurts us to see the rides go, but many times we fall in love with the new attraction that replace the previous one.
Only a few of the original attractions still remain from when Disneyland opened in 1955. Fantasyland, Adventureland and Frontierland have all had changes over the years, but the land that has gone through the most changes is Tomorrowland. The only ride that hasn't been removed or replaced over the years is the Tomorrowland Autopia
When Walt opened this ride in 1955 he hoped to make it feel like you were driving on California's Freeways. At that time California's Freeways were the future. The multilane Santa Ana freeway was just being build along with many other freeways. Walt wanted his guest to experience what the near future will bring and he did. The Autopia was so popular Disneyland had to add a second one, which was placed in Fantasyland.
45 years later driving on the Freeway isn't what most Guest call fun or magic. Most people want to go out of town, see what else is out there. And that is just what the new Autopia will do. Not only will you be able to drive on the "Freeway" but also through parks, over bridges, and an "off road" section. The Fantasyland Autopia has also been linked to the Tomorrowland Autopia to double how long the ride is.
Autopia Concept Art
The old Autopia's line was really nothing to talk about, in fact it was just a line. There was nothing to look at and no true themeing or show. But that is not how it is with the new Autopia. Guest will be able to watch cars talking about life on the road. One father car discuss the birds and the bees with his son "the birds can do a number on your paint job, and it's annoying to get those bees stuck in your radiator". They will have a large screen that will broadcast a news program with weather, traffic, and special-interest stories by and about automobiles.
Some of the Chevron Cars If you have ever seen a Chevron Commercial with the talking cars you have an idea of what you will be seeing in the quere area.
