"1500 years ago, Darius could have lead his armies across Europe, and Ruled for 1000 years, but he turned his armies back . . . and Darius, ever since, has tried from Holy Ground, to be a Peace Maker . . . Legend has it, that Darius killed a Holy Man at the gates of Paris -- the oldest living Immortal, at the time. Then, suddenly he changed -- he turned his back on war."
(Duncan MacLeod -- Band of Brothers)

His eyes were opened, revealing a Truth that had, before, always been clouded with a feverish passion for never ending Conquest and unsatisfying Power. This Truth, which he seem to have tapped into -- directly from the fabled Pool of Universal Knowledge -- showed him a vision of incorruptible goodness, concealed in a sea of ignorance, by evil, controlling, Warmongers, such as he, himself.

With this "Awakening" came a new direction. His days of drawing blood had come to an end, and were replaced with trying to set things right. He would spend the rest of his existence devoted to the pursuit of peace, and helping those caught in the cross-fires of war.

He was, probably, the single most powerful influence in the life of Duncan MacLeod. It's certain that Mac would have turned out to be a different person without the guidance of Darius. (See the Duncan MacLeod page)

Not only did he swear off war in the mortal world, but he also swore off the Game. He would go as far as becoming a priest, and never leaving Holy Ground to stay out of the Immortal Battle.

In the end, Holy Ground was not enough to save his Immortal Life. In Episode 22 (The Hunters), a band of Renegade Watchers, lead by James Horton, took his head, in his own church. Sadly, his Quickening, which would have made even the most evil Immortal see the light, was lost forever.

He was truly a good soul, far surpassing what the Catholic religion would consider a Saint. He will be missed.
