What the heck is Sliders about and when does it air?
Sliders is a 1 hour Sci-Fi / adventure American TV show that tells the journeys of four people traveling between dimensions. The scenario here is these four people have a timer that accesses a wormhole at random intervals of time. When the timer counts down to zero, the timer activates a wormhole that runs between parallel dimensions. In the beginning, the timer would be activated on their home world, they would slide to another dimension, and the timer would count up until the time of return to their Earth. The only problem is, they slid early corrupting the integrity of the timer's program and lost their home Earth's inter-dimensional coordinates. So, the group travels, trying to find their way back home. The show has run to completion after 5 seasons, totaling 87 episodes.
The real scientific theory behind this, is the Einstein-Rosen-Podolsky Bridge. In theory, the gravitational forces of a wormhole would distort reality enough so that you could access another dimension at the same place on Earth. The wormhole would then be lined with exotic mater in order to safeguard the contents from the gravitational forces. Wormholes have been proven to exist mathematically, although none has ever been observed to date.
There have been 8 sliders. They are: Quinn Mallory (Jerry O'Connell), Colin Mallory (Charlie O'Connell) [yes, they're related], Professor Maximillian P. Arturo (John Rhys-Davies), Rembrandt Brown (Cleavant Derricks), Diana Davis (Tembi Locke), Maggie Beckett (Kari Wuhrer), Wade Welles (Sabrina Lloyd), and "Mallory"(Robert Floyd) [no, they're not related]. One Actor died on the show, that was Kenneth Steadman. He was a guest star on the show, and was killed in a dune buggy accident during the filming of the episode Desert Storm. The filming was completed with a look-alike actor.
Sliders is no longer airing, but might be found on cable.
