Well, here we are, 5 years of show and a site later. This site has
had two major phases, the first one with this background, 
and this one
with the current background. I put up the site up in 97 and set up the
initial sections. I had never set up a site so I mostly just put
up things that other people had, like episode listings and character profiles,
but I also liked talking about the properties of the vortex so I added
the Fine Points section. Later it became a key feature of the site.
I also began to mass a significant collection of sound files and I put
them up too. Mostly they were seasons 1 through 3 and I had them
up through Fortune City. But, after about a year and a half, fortune
city, without warning, pulled down all the files and they were just gone.
So, that experience really disheartened me about the site. I lost
interest in the site and show, and the fourth season didn't really do much
for me either. Charlie is a bad actor in my opinion, and what Jerry
did ruined the show. (Not to mention the hurricane of other sabotage
the show endured) But, at that point the show moved to the sci-fi
channel and that meant that it was in stereo now. If you notice,
the sound files all change to stereo after the fourth season. Anyway,
the site just sat here during all that time and wasn't really touched.
Then the 5th season rolled around and I once again became really interested
in the show. I thought the 5th season was really well done and the
resolution of all the plot lines were interesting. (probably only to the
most hardcore fans out there anyway) And I thought the dynamics of the
cast were interesting too. So, then a lot of new things began to happen
to the timer and the vortex and that was what inspired me to revamp the
site. And I must say this, running and setting up a web site is a
lot of work! I mean A LOT of work! And time! But knowing
that your ideas and opinions are beaming across the world is pretty cool
and I like providing information and material to the Sliders fans.
Having this site has been fun. While the show was on, chats, guest
appearances and other things would happen and I would hurry to put the
link up and let everyone know. Now that it's off the air, it's kind
of opened up to a new style. Now you can have everything about
the show, instead of the latest update or "next episode information", or
whatever. After the cancellation, I redid the site to what it is now, a
stand alone resource for fans of the show.
Here's
a little about me. I've watched the show since the beginning.
I still remember what happened, I was playing some kind of maze game on
my old XT and the movie came on. (the original pilot premiere) I
was playing and began to listen to it more and more, and after about 20
or 30 minutes into the movie, I stopped playing the game and watched the
show, it captured my interest. From then on I watched the 1st season
and when the re-runs began I decided to tape them. About 6 months
later I got my 486 and began making sound files from the show. The
show continued and so did my collection of sounds. Then I finally bought a modem that worked, and got an internet connection. I found all kinds of info about the show on line. I picked the handle Slider17 because it seemed to be available at most places, and 17 is my lucky number. I read, learned and very quickly became aquatinted with the future episodes of the show and the behind-the-scenes gossip as well. Mostly I watched the newsgroup (alt.tv.sliders) and added my two cents here and there. That's really where I learned the most about the show. The Fine Points section was really enhanced by this
experience. Now, I've got all the episodes on tape and have seen
them many times. (you know, marathons :) ) I've collected
some memorabilia too. I've got the whole set of cards and I've got all the comics, and
I finally got some pictures... Ebay is a great place! But, now the
show is over, I guess I'll still follow it. Actually, it's been interesting
watching this TV show from start to finish. Now a lot of stuff about
the show have come out, things like old scripts, bloopers and props.
And of course rumors about movies, reunions and such still continue and
probably will for some time...
