"I remember when I first met her." Peter said as he stood in the middle of the dining hall. "She threw up on me." He glanced at Sofie who rolled her eyes at the memory. "Ordinarily people would take that as a bad sign. My friend Micky told me it was, and to run away as fast as I could." He toasting his friend. "But I didn't listen, and I'm glad I didn't listen. Sofie is a wonderful woman and I'm glad to say that she is now my fiancee'." Peter proclaimed getting a drinking glass off the table in front of him. "So heres to the future." Peter said raising his glass. Sofie stood up with her own glass.
"To us." She toasted his glass.
The rest of the half-filled room toasted each other. Peter kissed Sofie on the lips as they sat down. Peter looked around the room. His friends were there. His mother and father was there as well as the friends and family of Sofie Richardson. Peter had met Sofie after a concert half a year ago. She was there with her producer father. The reason why she had vomited on him because she had just gotten off an airplane and still had a major case of air sickness. Instead of getting really disgusted and offended, Peter helped cleaned up her outfit. Some say the sparks were there from the very first moment. Micky liked to call it love at first spew.
"I'll be back." Sofie said kissing Peter on the cheek. "I'm going to talk to my sisters." She said as her sisters went towards the bathroom.
"Why in there?" Peter questioned.
"Cause girls can't really take a leak alone." Davy said. "Its not as awkward as it is with guys. You can't really chat at a moment like that."
Peter nodded. "So what do you guys think? I know you really didn't get to know her until like a week ago."
"She seems nice. Got a good head on her shoulders." Mike said thoughtfully.
"Thanks Mike. That means a lot coming from you." Peter smiled.
"Does she have any sistahs?" Davy asked.
"Hurry, you may catch one coming out of the bathroom." Micky joked.
"I may have to go to the loo myself." Davy said leaving his chair. He strolled toward the bathroom area.
"Man, I thought he would take that seriously." Mike shook his head. "We need more drinks." He observed as Micky downed what was left of his drink. "This is a pretty fancy shin-dig." Mike said as he looked around. "They even hired a bartender." He said looking over at the bar. Peter followed his gaze. There was one man who was working alone until a woman with dark brown hair arrived. Some tense words were exchanged between her and the other bartender before she helped two people with a champagne bottle.
"I'll get it." Peter said. "What do you want?"
"I'll have a sex on the beach!" Micky chirped up. Mike kicked him. "I'll have a beer." Mike kicked him again. "How about a club soda?" He winced. Mike nodded. "Fine, this is what I get for booking a gig the day before the engagment party."
Peter walked over to the bar with the order. The woman who had just showed up came over to him with a smile on her face. Her name-tag read Meagan.
"Can I help you?" She asked.
"Yeah, four club sodas." Peter said. Meagan nodded and took the order Her smile fell from her face. "You all right?"
"Yeah, I just broke up with a long time boyfriend." She sighed. "Then I have to come and work a party for some sucker guy whos about to get married." She sighed. She put the four club sodas on the bar counter.
"That's Mr Sucker guy to you." Peter frowned. Meagan gasped. She knocked over one of the glasses of club soda.
"Oh my god, I am so sorry." She said quickly. She grabbed a paper towel and tried to wipe up the mess she had caused but at the same time knocking over the other glasses. Peter grabbed some other towels and helped her wipe up the club soda. Meagan trembled as she finished wiping up the mess.
"Please don't tell anyone. I was already late for this and I am so close to getting canned for this job." She confessed.
"Thats ok." Peter said. "I'm a bit of a klutz myself."
Meagan smiled uneasily. "I'm sorry about the remark too." Peter shrugged it off. "I am, really. Its just that seeing any happy couple right now really cheeses me off." She threw away the clumps of club soda soaked paper towels. "I'm not even supposed to be a bartender, I am supposed to be a great scientist or something. But no I decided to have a real life degree in mixology."
Peter nodded understandingly. "I know, my parents weren't really happy when I decided to become a musician."
"Then you know." Meagan smiled. "Let me get you some new glasses."
"Thats all right." Peter said as she turned around. Half the people were gone. "I think the partys over." He looked at Meagan. "I'm Peter." He held out his hand. "Sucker fiance'."
"I'm Meagan Johson. Sucker bartender." Meagan said shaking his hand. "No charge."
"Huh?"
"For the soda." She said. "For every mistake I make I have pay for it."
"Not this time." Peter said putting ten dollars in her hand. "For science." He joked. He then made a face realizing the joke fell completely flat.
"For science." Meagan smiled. She turned her head as she saw Sofie approach from the back. "Hello."
"Hello." Sofie said. She turned to Peter. "Darling its time to go."
"Already?" Peter asked. Sofie nodded. "I'll see you around sometime." He said to Meagan who nodded.
"Well it is a small town." Meagan observed with a wave.
As Peter and Sofie walked away, Peter noted. "Shes nice isn't she?"
"Shes okay if you are interested in that kind of thing." Sofie sniffed. "Maybe we will see her again. After all we do need someone to work the rehersal dinner."
"Maybe." Peter thought. "Maybe I'll see her sooner than that. You can never tell."
