Peter knocked on the door to Sofies hotel room. She was there within a minute wearing a night gown. She must have been getting ready for bed.
"Hi." Sofie said after she opened the door. "Whats wrong?" She asked as she saw the crestfallen expression on Peters face. "Mike called here a few minutes ago looking for you."
"I know." Peter said. "I mean I know he would be looking for me sooner or later." He said coming into the room. He shielded his eyes so he would be a little more discreet about what Sofie was wearing, even though she was wearing a full length nightgown. "I have something to tell you."
"What?" Sofie said sitting on the bed. Peter sat opposite her and held her hands.
"Mike told me something very strange tonight." Peter said. He took a deep breath. "He told me he saw you kissing that Justin guy at the restaurant."
Sofie shook her head. "Thats ridiculous." She patted his hand. "Justin and I are old friends. I guess I oughta tell you now before it comes out later but yes we did used to date." She smiled. "It didn't go so well as you might imagine. We decided we were better off friends and associates."
"That makes me feel a little better." Peter sighed.
"It was only Mike who thought he saw what he thought he saw right?" Sofie questioned.
"Yes." Peter said. "And hes hardly wrong about anything."
"He is this time." Sofie said. "But thats ok. I won't hold that against him. After all he is going through a bad time." This comment raised Peters eyebrow.
"Bad time?"
"He did just break up with, whats her name, Louise? Its not unexpected for someone to break up with someone and then get really jealous or even angry at anyone in a good relationship." She patted Peters hair. He could hardly believe what she was saying. "Just keep that in mind if he even mentions this possibly phantom kiss ever again."
"But Mike wouldn't lie to me like that." Peter said in protest.
"Not on purpose no." Sofie said quietly. "He even had the gall to tell me he was going back in the morning before that meeting we arranged for you guys to be at." She sat up. "Seems all three of them are going."
"I guess I'm going too." Peter said. Sofie whirled around on him.
"Why?" Sofie asked seeming a little angry. "You ought to stay here with me. At least one representative of the band should be here. Plus we havent spent much time together." She said quietly.
"I go where the band goes." Peter said. "You have work to do, and we have ours." He came up to her. "But I will see you when you get back. Then we can finally get to talk about that wedding." He leaned in to kiss her but she pulled away.
"Ah sweetie, thats so nice but I think I have a headache." Sofie muttered as she held her head in one hand.
"Alright." Peter said. "I oughta go back to my hotel anyway, start packing." Sofie nodded as he went to the door. He blew a kiss this time and she weakly caught it with her free hand. Peter smiled and closed the door.
Half a day later
The plane ride back to California was very quiet. Peter thought it was best not to tell the others what Sofie had said. It still sounded a little strange, even coming from her. In the end Peter decided that it must have been a case of mistaken identity, no more and no less. Still Mike seemed to be so convinced it was Sofie and Justin. And he would never say anything like that whether he had a girlfriend or not. It was all a little confusing. Once they got back home, Peter hoped it would all settle down.
"Took you a while to come back sport." Mike said.
"I went to see Sofie. Everything seems to be fine." Peter said as Mike asked him a question he was hoping not to be asked.
"What else did you do, take in a show?" Davy asked. "Meet any show girls?"
"Course not Davy." Peter laughed.
"Well not for you, but for me of course." Davy smiled.
Peter shook his head. "I did call Meagan." He said remembering his brief chat with her.
"How is she?" Mike asked.
"Not so good, if I recall." Peter sighed. "She broke up with that Roger guy. We didnt talk long, she was going to be late for work."
"Kinda sucks. He seemed like a nice guy." Micky said. "Course he's gonna be a lawyer, thats already a strike against him." He laughed.
"Why are we going back early?" Peter looked at Mike.
"Well if we are going to have a record, we oughta have more than four songs to record, doncha think?" Mike smiled with a wink. "It would be an awful short record if we don't."
"That makes sense." Peter thought. "Good cause I got a few ideas of my own to use."
"I bet we all do, after all this will be a team effort." Mike said. "We all got here together and we are gonna make it together."
"Yes!" Micky said newly enthused. He put out his hand. Mike put his on top of it. Davy put his on top of Mikes and Peter topped it with his own. He smiled. He had a feeling things were improving already. He turned to the window and saw the bright California sunshine. It reassured him. He looked out the window for a few moments and then fell quietly asleep.
