Nancy turned the TV off and walked to the stairs. She was about to go up the stairs when she noticed a door to the left of the stairs she didn't see before. She opened the door and looked around for a second. There was no lights. She felt the wall next to the door. She turned to go to look for a kitchen when she jumped almost a foot into the air. It was Rose.
"What the? You almost scared me to death!" Nancy said in a loud whisper.
"Well I'm sorry." Rose said.
"What are you doing here anyway?" Nancy said as she went to the kitchen.
"I can't sleep. At least I'm afraid to sleep. I don’t know what kind of nightmares about Tucker Carlson I'm going to have."
"Cheer up. At least Bill O'Reilly didn't lay one on you." Nancy said grabbing a flashlight.
"For an answer to that, I would have to use a quote from Shakespeare, I would hie thee to a nunnery if that happened." Rose said with a small shake of fear. "What are you up to?"
"I was going to bed when I spotted this door." Nancy said pointing the unlit flashlight at the door. "There are no light switches."
"And you were going to go in by yourself?" Rose asked.
"Yeah." Nancy said.
"Can I come?" Rose asked.
"I thought you had enough adventure with Tucker. Do you think he will call?" Nancy teased.
"Enough please!" Rose moaned. She grabbed the flashlight. They walked slowly into the room. Rose flinched when she ran into something. She shined her flashlight on it. It turned out to be a string light.
"I'm almost afraid to turn it on." Rose said.
"I know. Being a Law and order fan I would almost expect to see a stiff in here." Nancy muttered.
"That doesn't help me." Rose said. She slowly put her hand out and pulled the string. The light went on quickly which blinded them both for a second. As Rose recovered she looked around the room. "Oh my."
"What?" Nancy said rubbing her eyes.
"You should see this." Nancy heard Rose say. She finished rubbing her eyes and opened them so she could look around.
"I guess if Linda McMartin had a dirty little secret, we just found it." Nancy. The room was no bigger than a pantry but it was full of Shaun Cassidy memorabilia.
"Did she have a daughter?" Rose asked. "Maybe its her stuff."
"It would make sense. If she made a copy of the house she lived in where I did meals on wheels her daughter might have lived down here and brought her Shaun stuff with her." Nancy laughed.
"If she had a daughter, why is the house not going to her?" Rose asked as she turned the light off.
"Her daughter broke up with a musician, she went nuts and she was moved to a asylum when she was thirty." Nancy said with an ominous tone in her voice. She shined a light on her face. "They say she never made it to the asylum!"
Rose had a scared look on her face. She blinked. "You're full of it."
"I am. I reread the letter, she doesn't care of the house and didn't challenge it going to me." Nancy cocked an eyebrow at her friend. "How did you know?"
"The minute you started using props, it was a dead give away." Rose said as they went up the stairs. "It's almost morning. We should get some sleep."
"Yeah, we should." Nancy said as she went into her room. She tiptoed over to her bed. She looked over at Harley who seemed to be dreaming sweet dreams. Nancy sighed and got into her bed.
Morning came, and all was quiet.
"Its too quiet." Tippy noted as the girls gathered around the table. They had packed up their stuff as they got dressed.
"Did you really find a Shaun Cassidy shrine?" Desy asked Nancy.
"I swear." Nancy said holding up her right hand. "Rose is my witness."
"You know I would love it if all yesterday was just some weird dream." Rose sighed. "I don't think we're out of the weird woods yet. Are you going to take the house? Its officially yours now."
"I dunno." Nancy sighed. "Let's look around outside." Nancy and Jean went to the back door. "we can look around the back yard."
"What are we going to do?" Tippy called out. "Play tiddlywinks?"
"If you got them, sure." Rose said.
Nancy and Jean went out the back door.
Desy looked at Tippy. “Do you?"
"No." Tippy shook her head. She looked at Harley. "Did you hear that?"
"What?" Harley said.
"That creaking noise." Tippy said.
"You're hearing things." Rose shook her head.
"That’s right, and I want to know what." Tippy said going to the kitchen. "It came from over here." She opened up one of the cabinet . "Nothing here."
"Maybe it was the foundation settling." Rose suggested. "Old houses do that."
"No." Desy said. "Nancy said this is a copy of an old house. Its a new house that looks like an old house." Harley looked at her with a blank stare. "Understand?"
"I think I do...it scares me." Rose said quietly.
While this was going on Nancy and Jean looked around the small pool in the backyard.
"Sheesh." Nancy said. "It looked bigger in the photo."
"Its probably an old duck pond." Jean said.
"I'm not going to come back up here to see if ducks actually use it." Nancy said. "I'm going back inside."
"Yeah for a haunted house this turned out to be such a bust." Jean said. "I guess it just looked creepy."
"I half expected the girls to run out screaming the first day." Nancy said looking at the house. The back door swung open and the other girls ran out. "Okay I'm a few hours late."
"What’s up?" Jean asked Desy as they all plopped on the ground.
"We thought the house wasn't haunted right?" Desy asked.
"Other than a few annoying things...like being sucked in a television...nothing really seemed to happen." Nancy said. "What’s going on in there?"
"Let's just say we should be glad we packed the car earlier this morning instead of waiting. I think the house is going to go bye bye."
"What do you mean?" Nancy said.
"we heard a bunch of creaking in the kitchen. We thought..." Rose started.
"You thought..." Tippy broke in.
"Ok...I thought an animal had gotten in during the night and got trapped in the drawers or something." Rose continued.
"There wasn't." Desy shook her head. "It was the house. It's moving down."
The gang turned and looked at the house.
"Okay its now missing a entire floor." Nancy said in disbelief. “Oh my god."
"Okay now this is officially worse than getting sucked into the tv." Rose said as the house suddenly vanished into the ground. It had been moving slowly like if it was trapped in quicksand, then the house suddenly vanished.
"Okay that you don't see every day." Jean said amazed.
"It'll be the last thing we see here." Nancy said running for her car. "Cause I'm outta here!"
"Us too!" The girls called out and followed Nancy out to the car. The Monkeemobile pulled up the hill as the girls reached the cars.
"So where’s this house?" Mike said poking his head out the door.
Nancy looked at the girls. "Do you see a house girls?"
"No." Desy said. The others shook their heads.
"Well we got all weekend to hang out, and we were going to do it here, where are we going to go now?" Mike asked.
Jean blinked. "I've never been to Branson." Tippy poked her friend. "Okay how far are we from Wally World?"
"Why don't we find out?" Nancy said getting in her car. Desy popped in next to her. "I thought you rode up with someone else."
"Who cares, lets get out of here." Desy said putting her seatbelt on. "And Nancy next time you get some dead persons house...let the state have it!"
"I won't argue with you." Nancy said as they pulled away from what was now a big vacant lot. "Wally World here we come!"
