The girls turned up at the party fashionably late at eight. Jeanie was wearing her angel costume. Nancy wore a bewitching wiccan costume. Tippy was wearing a "Farmers daughter" outfit of overalls and a big straw cowboy hat. She wore one of Nancys old music t-shirts underneath that, it was one of Def Leppard. Desys outfit caused some debate.
"So who ARE you again?" Jean asked Desy as they walked into the music hall the party was being held at.
"Its very simple." Desy huffed, now being extremely tired of being asked the same dumb question in the car ride over. "I'm Wolverine."
"Yes, from the X-Men, but Logan usually has blades on both hands." Nancy explained. "Without one you look like Freddy Kruger jr."
"Or Freda Kruger, his daughter." Tippy pointed out. "But did he have kids?"
"Right right, but Freddy DID have a daughter in the series and her name wasnt Freda. I'm hard pressed to remember whather name was cause that was a such a cruddy movie." Nancy smiled as she spotted Micky practicing on his drums. He was wearing a Hawaiian t-shirt and shorts.
Desy waved her hand with the fake blades on it. "Or you could come closer and ask me again and find out who I really am." She cackled.
"Oooh siska-bob action." Jean backed up a little bit. "I'm gonna go help the guys a little bit." She wandered off in the direction of the bandstand.
"Shes gonna hit the punch table." Tippy said. "Shes always good with the punch." She waved to Peter and went over to talk to him.
"So its just you and me." Desy smiled. Nancy looked uneasy. Just then however Micky came over and surprised her from behind.
"Ah!" She cried out as he grabbed her. "Mick!"
"Happy halloween babe." He snickered. "Boy you look rather bewitching." He looked at Desy. "Oh good we need help cutting the cheese in the kitchen." He said observing Desys hand.
"Oooh funny." She rolled her eyes. "Its gonna be a long night. And Nances the expert on cutting the cheese."
"Hey!"
"Trust me, you dont want to sit downwind of her." Desy laughed.
Nancy pretended to put a "Hex" on Desy while Micky took her hand and led her away. "oooooh may a camel poopoo in your couscous."
"Good." Desy said. "I really hate couscous."
"Don't think you've had it." Mike said appearing next to her with Davy.
"Trust me, with that name, I will definately not be trying that." She looked at Mike and Davys costumes. "What are you supposed to be?"
"Hansel and Gretel." Mike said. He was dressed as Gretel. "Don't ask why I got picked as Gretel."
"I won't." Desy said as she noticed Peter was dressed like the scarecrow from Wizard of Oz.
"Why aren't you done with the party food? The party was to start at eight." Jean asked as she rejoined the group with a glass.
"We got to a late start." Davy said. "Mike was a little modest with his costume."
"You would be too if you were dressed like Gretel." Mike grumbled.
"We'll help out." Jean said. "I imagine Nancys doing something with Micky in the kitchen." A thought occured to her. "I'm gonna make sure shes actually doing something and Mickys helping her and not just staring at her again."
Nancy quickly made tuna fish in a big bowl and added a little pepper to it. She got some finger rolls and started to split them open and lay them gently on a hot grill.
"You could help me, you know." Nancy teased as Micky laid his head on a cutting board and watched.
"No thanks. this is like my own personal cooking show." He grinned evilly.
Nancy made an Emeril "bam" gesture with some of the extra pepper.
"Tuna rolls arent really a halloween food anyway thought, right?" Micky asked as Nancy finished stirring the now ready tuna fish. She closed up a jar of Miracle Whip and put it away.
"Yeah but you guys got going so late, people will be sick of candy." She took the half-way toasted finger rolls off the grill and laid them on the cutting board once Micky moved his head. She took one roll in her hand and put a little tuna in it and proceeded to feed it to Micky. He ate it hungrily as Jean came in.
"Good I was hoping you were doing something constructive." Jean rolled her eyes.
"Taste tester." Nancy explained. "Have to make sure the mayo is still good."
"Uh huh." Jean nodded. "People are starting to arrive." She mentioned.
"I'll have these done in minute." Nancy smiled as she prepared another roll. Micky opened his mouth like a hungry dog. "You just get one."
He put a fake pout on his face.
"You'll get another one later." Nancy said as she quickly finished her task.
"Don't forget you offered to sing for us." Jean winked.
Nancy rolled her eyes. "I hoped she would forget." She said as Jean left the room.
"Sing?" Micky asked.
"I lost a bet. We are having open mike night so she thought it would be a good idea to have someone kick it off. That someone is me." Nancy explained as they left the kitchen with the plate of tuna rolls. They placed it next to some chips that had been opened earlier. There were many people in the room by now, and by some miracle of time and space Harley had turned up. She was dressed up like a sherpardess.
Micky and Nancy snickered, both having had evil thought runs through their mind.
"Which one of us gets to say something?" Micky asked.
"I do. But only after I sing." Nancy promised.
"What if I beat you to it?" Micky winked.
"No tuna roll for you!" Nancy said strictly.
"Awww." Micky whined. "So what are you singing anyway? You got to have a back-up band."
Nancy got to the top of the stage with Tippy and Jean.
Jean put one arm around her friend grinned.
"Will you ever make a bet with me again?" She chuckled.
"Lets see." Nancy grumbled. "I wouldnt bet on it."
"Trust me, she will lose that one too." Tippy patted Nancys shoulder. "Everyone! Nancys gonna our open our open-night mike, she'll be the first one to sing."
"And shes overjoyed to do it." Jean joined in. "Right?"
"Right." Nancy said exaggerating the word a touch.
"When you're ready girl!" Someone in the audience called out. Nancy tried to see who it was but couldnt really see out there.
"All right." She said as the other girls left. She moved closer to the mike and there was feedback. She moved back and took a deep breath as the band began to play.
"If you can imagine this. The whole world sharin' one big kiss. These are thoughts all through my brain." She started out slowly. "That I daydream every day
I'm alive and well. Right now I'm alive, I'm feelin' well. It's my life to live my way. So I'll keep daydreaming away. Who knows, maybe someday it will all come true. And I will get my way. And we will live as one."
Desy swayed with the crowd but found no one would dance with her cause of her right hand. She took off the blade contraption and left it on a table. A guy with a dracula costume and a massive amount of acne on his face tapped her on the shoulder and asked her to dance. She stared at him and inched in the other direction.
"I'm caught up in a dream. I'm gonna wish for it all.
No one is gonna tell me how. No way, this is my dream now. I'm caught up in what seems. Simply impossible.
I ain't gonna change a thing. No way, it's my dream."
Harley tapped Jean on the shoulder waved. Jean laughed at Harleys Little bo peep like outfit.
"Wheres the sheep?" Jean whispered.
"Darnit." Nancy thought. "She beat me to my joke!"
"What cannot will be done for every living thing under the sun, foggy color foggy race, just be one big happy face among the sea of people. live among God's creatures sharing love that was sent down from above.
here to share with one another father, brother, sister, mother, everybody sharing love, sharing love." She started waving her hand. the audience started to wave theirs along with her. Tippy waved both of hers.
"I'm caught up in a dream, I'm gonna wish for it all.
No one is gonna tell me how. No way, this is my dream now. I'm caught up in what seems, simply impossible
I ain't gonna change a thing, no way, it's my dream."
Nancy smiled. "I close my eyes And everything will be alright, here in my fantasy, living in harmony...make my dream come alive. I'm caught up in a dream. I'm gonna wish for it all. No one is gonna tell me how.No way, this is my dream now. I'm caught up in what seems, simply impossible, I ain't gonna change a thing. No way, it's my dream."
The crowd started to applaud as Nancy got into the last part of the song. "If you can imagine this,The whole world sharin' one big kiss. Take away the pain and hurt.
Make like heaven here on earth. Without reason to die.
Givin' everlasting life to all." Nancy quietly closed the song. The cheers grew louder. "All right!" Nancy said. "Thanks! Now whos next?" There was a huge silence. "Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?"
Later
The girls got back at the pad around 1:30. The party lasted about three hours but it took two hours to clean up after wards.
"That was a blast mate." Harley said as she joined her pals at the house. "And a good song too Nan."
"Who did it? Remember I said no AC/DC." Desy reminded her.
"It was Tesla. A recent hit for them. One of my faves." Nancy said.
"Lets hit the hay." Tippy suggested.
"All right. But don't forget we gotta set our clocks back." Nancy said. "We are celebrating halloween a day early you know."
"Yea." Jean nodded. "I'll get my clock."
"You change that freaky ass clock you got in your room." Desy said.
"I can't believe that thing still gives you the creeps." Nancy said.
"I don't know what, but theres something I don't like about that thing." Desy said. "Maybes its me."
Tippy nodded. "Its you."
Before Nancy went to the sleep she went to the clock. The time was not accurately set. She set the time for what it was at the moment, and then set it back an hour for the time change. She nodded at it and went to sleep. As she began to drop off, she could swear she could hear the "cukoo" of the clock go off.
Morning
Nancy woke up from her sleep and rolled out of bed. For a second she couldnt see her new clock. She rubbed her eyes and looked around but couldnt see it. She sighed, maybe she put it in a different place in the room. She began to get dressed as Jean knocked on the door.
"Are you almost ready to go?" Jean called out.
"Almost." Nancy said.
"We gotta get our halloween shopping done." Jean said as Nancy popped out the door. "I got a question.
"What?" Nancy asked.
"It may be me or that I'm crazy. Since we've known each other for a long time now, it may just be the crazy part."
"No argument here." Nancy smiled.
"Ever feel like you have de ja vu?" Jean asked.
"Not really." Nancy shook her head.
"Me neither. Oh well. we gotta get going."
"Ok." Nancy said. "Oh and there is a little flea market I want to check out too." Jean rolled her eyes. "Ok I saw that!" She said as she went down the stairs.
