Nancy bounded into Jeans room with her year in a box calendar. She jumped onto Jeans bed with such force she almost knocked her friend out of her bed.
"What?" Jean said groggily. "Oh Nancy. Whats your deal?"
"Look." Nancy said showing her the calendar.
"So its almost Halloween. "Big fat hairy deal. What do you want?" Jean asked. "Are you in here to show me your CSI calendar again?" She looked at the defintion for the day. "Encephalitis." She observed.
"I think something strange is going on." Nancy said. "Don't you sense something strange?"
"Yeah, you in the morning. No wonder you have a night job." Jean said getting up. "We gotta go candy shopping."
"I know." Nancy said. "But I have to tell you something. I think the day is repeating."
"Repeating?" Jean asked as she picked out a sweatshirt. "How so?"
"Its starting over again. I can sense its happened at least twice already." Jean listened to her friend as she shook her head.
"What proof do you have?" Jean asked. "Maybe you just watched Groundhog Day a few too many times."
"Nothing is wrong with watching that movie a lot, and one of the girls names is Nancy!" Nancy reminded her.
"Yeah but shes is also Bill Murrays girlfriend at one point in the movie." Jean noted.
"I don't know how to feel about that." Nancy wrinkled her nose. "I have a list of people I would rather play the girlfriend too." She said with a naughty smile.
"So what proof do you have?" Jean asked.
"Come with me." Nancy said. "After we do shopping we will come home and see the following three events; Desy will try to make a Batman bat-signal into a pumpkin but she will fail. Tippy will come out of the kitchen. Rose will come downstairs with our costumes but one of Desys Wolverine claws will be missing."
"Uh huh." Jean nodded. "Do you want to bet it doesnt happen?" She asked her.
"No." Nancy shook her head. "I got a strange feeling I should law off bets for a while."
"We'll see what happens." Jean shrugged. Nancy flipped her calender onto Jeans bed as she left the room to let her change.
Jean and Nancy approached the door to their place.
"Are you ready?" Jean asked.
"Yes." Nancy said. "I want to find out if I'm crazy or not."
"I can tell you already." Jean said lightly poking fun at her.
Nancy opened the door and went in first. They reached Desy, who was adding the last touches on a pumpkin. Desy spotted them and turned her creation around with pride.
"How did the shopping go?" Desy asked. Her pumpkin had what seemed to be the Batman bat-signal on it.
"How....neat." Jean said frowning.
"Shopping went pretty good." Nancy said. "We got a lot of good candy."
"Yea. Do you know how hard it is to keep this girl out of chocolate?" Jean asked pointing at Nancy.
"Very hard. I think she bites the ears of easter bunnies." Tippy said coming out of the kitchen.
Jean arched an eyebrow at Nancy who looked down at the floor. She then looked up with Jean when they heard someone clomping down the stairs.
"I think I got all of them." Rose said as she came down with a bundle of clothes. "Desy, one of your wolverine claws seems to be missing."
Jean shook her head. "Its not possible."
"Well it could be, stuff gets moved around a lot." Tippy said. "I can help look."
"No I mean all this what just happened." Jean said. "Nancy predicted it all!"
"What do you mean?" Desy said.
"I think we are repeating days." Nancy said. "Its happened twice already."
"Prove it." Desy dared.
"Oh don't dare me." Nancy said. "Do you think I like being right? Ok don't answer that."
"How is the day repeating?" Tippy asked.
"The day before halloween, it just happened like twice. I can't explain it. I leave the metaphysical stuff to the pros."
"Predict something else." Rose said.
"Okay." Nancy said. "That pumpkin that Desy is putting out now will be history in five minutes."
"I think it will be longer." Rose said.
"Me too." Desy and Tippy chorused.
"I'd rather not bet on it." Nancy said. "I woulda made you sing a song of my choice at the party." She looked at the wall clock. "And as much fun as that would be, Id rather not have to pick another song."
"Okay then, let's wait." Desy agreed. They sat down all together on the couch.
"What happens if you are wrong?" Tippy asked Nancy.
"I'd hate to think. Maybe I need a long vacation." Nancy replied.
"What do you have in the other bag?" Rose asked poking at it. It sat on the table.
"Its a cukoo clock, Bob." Nancy said getting up. She pulled a cukoo clock with a farm motif out of the bag. Desy suddenly shivered very violently.
"I think it just dropped ten degrees in here." Desy observed. A loud whump came from the outside. The whole gang ran to the door to look out the door. The pumpkin lay in a orange gooey mess.
"Shes right, again." Rose said. "Quick, we need to put her on Jeopardy."
"Is the day really redoing itself or is she just lucky?" Desy wondered.
"There is one way to find out." Tippy observed. "We change the direction of the day."
"How so?" Desy asked. "How does the day go?" She asked Nancy.
"Rosie does candy duty, we go to the party. It gets started a little late because two of the guys are ashamed of their costumes." Nancy explained. "The halloween party is at the gig tonight."
"Perfect." Jean said. "All we have to do is change the local. We will have it here."
"But we have to make a bunch of calls, change invitations, etc etc." Desy comaplained.
"Yes, but you can do it, you are our great little organizer." Nancy said. "If the day repeats again, well we have to find out whats causing it."
"If not?" Desy asked in a low whisper.
"Then I am probably cukoo for coco puffs." Nancy sadly smiled.
Desy got on the phone and called the guys about the change in plans. Open mike night was cancelled, which was good, no one would want to sing anyway. Harley would be in later that night, the whole thing would have to be explained to their overseas friend.
"What do we do now?" Jean asked Nancy as she took the clock into her room. She had her costume with her.
"See what happens." Nancy said. "In the meantime we have fun."
"If we are really gonna change things..." Jean said. "We oughta change costumes. You be the angel and I will be the witch." Jean offered.
Nancy cocked an eyebrow. "Right I get it." She explained. "I always wanted to fly."
