One Long Night

At The Party

Nancy danced with Micky when they were done singing, It was hard though since the wings on her costume were always getting in the way. Rosie and Tippy traded on and off candy duties. Truthfully whoever was near the door at the time was basically roped into doing candy for the few kids that showed up. Jean and Desy were sitting in the kitchen. In the spirit of "changing the way the day went" they made the finger rolls this time. Egg salad instead of tuna. Surprisingly well known tuna lover Nancy was sick of making tuna.

"Why did you guys decide to have the party here?" Peter asked Tippy as she handed out candy to two kids in Power Ranger costumes.
"Nancy felt like we were doing just the same old thing so we decided to be different." Tippy said. She decided not to get into the whole "Nancy thinks we are repeating days" until there was proof.
"I like it." Peter said. "We aint been hanging out with you girls lately." Peter noted. "We kinda felt bad."
"Micky dont feel too bad." Tippy pointed out Micky who kept tyring to sneak a kiss with Nancy on the dance floor. She kept bobbing back and forth away from him.
"Come on Mick. I'm supposed to be an angel!" She jokingly complained.
"Who do you think you're fooling?" Desy joked.
"Uh no one." Nancy said.
"You said we're trying to make a whole different day." Jean said. "Do something radically different." She said into her friends ear.
A lightbulb lit above Nancys head. She had an idea.
"Oh boy, shes got an idea." Desy said. "I think we need chips."
"And dip." Mike commented.
"We already do." Desy laughed pointing at Nancy.
"Hey!" Nancy said with mock frown.
Desy and Mike went to the kitchen for most supplies.
"Mick, I got an idea." Nancy said going back to what she was doing. "Why don't we elope?"
"Elope?" Micky said his face paling to the color of a sheet. "We're not even engaged!"
"I know, lets be crazy, spontaneous." She smiled. "Crazy!" She sang. "But thats how it goes."
"You know what, I think Davy needs help with the decorations." Micky said running off.
Jean observed this and laughed. "Boy nice going, he almost left skid marks in the floor."
"If this whole day repeats, then this part never happens. We can go anywhere from here to cucamonga but still wake up tomorrow today. Or something." Nancy said. "Sadly this kinda lets me know what my prospects are."
"You kinda sprung it on him. It takes time." Jean said.
"I know. Actually I'm not in any hurry to get married anyway." Nancy said. "This party is great." Tippy came with an empty bowl. "Foods gone."
"I guess the party is almost over. Jean said.
"I'm pooped." Rosie said.
"Yeah." Desy said as the crowd started to thin out. "So what now?"
"We end the day like any other." Nancy said. "Then we go to bed and wake up, hopefully on tomorrow."
"Right." Jean nodded. "Just act like everything is normal."
Harley was at the door in a strange shepardess costume saying goodbye to everyone. She barely got there in time for the party. Apparently her real costume went missing. She waved at her friends from the doorway.
"Just another day." Desy sighed.

Later

Nancy went in and changed her clock. Jean came in and dropped on her bed.
"I'm exhausted." Jean said. "What are you doing?"
"Changing the clock, its fall back today." Nancy said as she sat on the bed.
"Desys right that is one ugly clock." Jean said closing her eyes for a second.
"I know but I think its cute." Nancy looked over and saw that her friend fell fast asleep. "Huh. Oh well in Rome do as the Jeannies do." She fell over on the bed and fell asleep herself.

Morning

Nancy woke up in her favorite nightgown. She looked around and noticed at least three things, her calender was still on Ocotober 30, her clock was suddenly gone, and Jean was no longer where she thought she had fallen asleep last night.
Nancy got up and opened her door. Desy, Rosie and Jean were at the door.
"Nancy quit messing with time and space this instant." Desy said with her arms crossed.
"I didnt do it." Nancy said.
"Then what did?" Jean asked.
"I have no idea." Nancy said. "All I know is we go shopping for candy and we go to a flea market."
"Why don't we try what we were doing?" Rosie asked. "We do everything different. You dont go to the flea market."
"Ah but I want to." Nancy whined.
"From what happened last year, I thought you would stay away from yard sales and freaky markets." Tippy smiled.
"Maybe thats it. Something I got at the flea market was the cause of all of this." Nancy thought for a minute. "Don't let me buy anything weird."
"You know how tough thats gonna be?" Jean moaned. "Yes." Desy said putting her hands on Jeans shoulders. "But you are capable of it. We can count on you."
"Yeah but no pressure." Tippy smirked.
"Great...so where to?" Jean asked.
"Wal-mart." Nancy said. "And we might as well just go to the Halloween gig. I didn't have too much fun at the one we went to...uh sorta. It hasnt happened yet."
"It happened for me." Rosie rubbed her stomach. "I aint eating so much candy this time."

Downtown Jean and Nancy were loading their candy into the car when they felt two people were behind them. Nancy whirled around to find it was Davy and Micky.
"What are you guys up to?" Micky said as he gave Nancy a hug.
"Candy duty." Jean said. "You?"
"Costume duty." Davy said.
"Whatever you do dont get Hansel and Gretel." Nancy warned. "No one in the world deserves to look like that."
"Thanks." Micky said. "I am gonna show up dressed as a quite dapper fellow."
Nancy recalled what Micky had on in the last "Halloween Party" they had been at. It was a t-shirt that looked like a tuxedo. "And you sure will look cute."
"Oh brother." Davy rolled his eyes.
"Hey I was just in the flea market." Micky said. He looked he had something behind his back. "And I thought of you."
"Really?" Nancy asked.
It was time for Jean to say "Oh brother."
Micky brought out what he had behind his back. It was a cukoo clock with a farm motif.
"Oh thats so cute." Nancy said taking it from him.
"As cute as me?" Micky asked her.
"Nothing is as cute as you." Nancy said kissing Micky on the cheek.
"What about me?" Davy asked looking hurt.
"The jury is still out on that one." Jean laughed as she got in the car.
"Hey!" Davy said.
"We'll see you guys later." Nancy said getting in on the drivers side of her car. Since Halloween of last year she got a new one. Nancy placed the clock in the backseat.
"Can we go home now?" Jean asked as the guys walked to a nearby costume store.
"Sure. I hope everyone likes Mickys gift." Nancy smiled.

Back at home Desy was sitting at the kitchen table with her pumpkin. She was trying for a regular old happy face on it instead of the batman signal design she knew would fail. She suddenly felt a big shiver all over her body.
Rosie looked at her. She was trying Nancys "wicca" costume on. "Whats wrong?"
"I don't know. I felt so cold all of a sudden. Maybe someone left the door open." She looked at her friend. "That is gonna be too long for you. You're gonna trip all the way to the front door to do the trick or treaters."
"I'll practice a walk then. I bet you I make it." Rosie said.
"Tippy? What do you say?" Desy said.
"I'm with her. She will make it." Tippy said.
"Okay but if I'm wrong you get to sing a song." Desy smiled. "I'm a poet and didn't know it."
"It's not hard to rhyme, I do it all the time." Tippy spoke.
"Nancy and Jean are home, to the front door I roam." Rosie said going for the front door. She snagged a bare toe between the skirts and fell down. Desy laughed loudly.
"Not fair! I won't be at the party so only Tippy is gonna sing!" Rosie complained as Nancy and Jean came in the door. "Where did you get that ugly thing?" She said referring to the clock.
"Its Mickys gift." Nancy said.
"He needs to learn to stick to the dvd section." Desy said. "Tippys gonna sing a song at the party."
"Why do I feel like I just did that." Tippy said thinking aloud.
"If things are going the way they are, on one alternative October the 30 you already did." Jean theorized. "What can we do now?"
"I got a neat idea." Nancy said. "Why don't we go pick Harley up at the airport?"
"Yea, I always wondered how she got here and never hit us up for cab fare. She should be almost in." Desy said checking her watch.
"Let me put my clock in my room." Nancy said going upstairs. While she was gone everyone got ready to go.
"Will everyone fit in Nancys car?" Jean asked.
"We can strap Desy to the hood, she can be on the look-out for an Arbys." Nancy said running back down stairs.
"Thats not funny, and I'll get bugs in my teeth." She said looking at Nancy.
"mmmm meaty." Tippy chuckled.
"Lets go." Desy said. "I got a feeling we got another stop along the way.
The gang agreed and filed out to Nancys car. After figuring out seating arrangements, they took off to the airport.
