Sea Sickness
Prologue

Love is weird, isnt it? I mean I been married for couple of years and I still havent figured it out. I got a boy, real cutie. Oh, I should introduce myself, my name is Chris Johnson. But this story isnt about me. Well maybe it is cause I'm a part of it, but its really about my friend Valerie Parker. Shes my best friend in the whole world. Anyway I've been worried about her for a while, and let me tell you why.

A year ago, through what was undoubtably the weirdest day she ever had, she met Mike Nesmith, semi professional muscian. Sounds better than struggling artist, right? Right. Anyway where was I, oh yeah.

They dated for a couple of months, things were great for her, sun shining, birds singing, she was very happy, and not snarky like she used to be. But once the fall hit, things went south along with the temperature. The band Mike is in, The Monkees, hit it big and were offered a tour through the southwest corner of the US. He would be gone for months at a time, I heard.

This would have been all well and good, but Valerie got very paranoid about the thought of some young groupie tramp snapping up her man. Normally I would agree with her but with my knowledge of the band, they seemed to be more drawn to the other "girl friendly" guys. But I digress. She launched a pre-emptive strike, and ended the relationship. Words were said, some very bad things I would rather not get into again. To sum it up, he said she would never meet another guy like him, and that she would never have another chance with him. She scoffed at this as she told me about it later, but I could tell deep down she knew this was true. Over the next few months, into the fall and the winter, losing Mike took a toll on her, and our food supply. She was over every day eating out of our cupboards. I guess she lost the nerve to go to her local grocery store. Come early summer, I decided I had enough of our Mopey Maggie, and pried the cookie dough out of her hand. I told her I was gonna make her happy, even if I had to ram it up her butt, something I never say to anyone, but this was a friend and things were dire. Plus it looked like I had to get a second job to afford food alone.

This month, June, I am springing a surprise on her. It involves water and a boat, and possibly a week of bliss she wont soon forget. Who knows what cute guys would show up on a cruise.....ooh oops I blew it. But you better stay tuned anyway, its going to be interesting.
