Agents Dana Scully and Fox Mulder holed themselves up in a hotel after the Chandler copycat incident. Since the trail of fugitive ex-FBI Agent Alex Krycek has gone cold, Mulder decided to dive into a few x-files they haed brought along. Scully wasnt too into an extra box in the car, but now she was glad she had something to do besides read an old novel she had brought along.
As she tosed her copy of "Old glory" into a bathroom trash basket a telephone rang. Scully looked at Mulder through open door to his adjoining suite. He was too into the Knicks game he was watching to get the phone.
"Oh please." Scully said. "Dont get up, I'll get it." She jogged to the phone and picked it up. "Scully."
She listened for a couple of minutes and put the phone down.
"Who was it?" Mulder said coming to the door.
"They didn't leave a name." Scully said turning to him. "They said that a alien speciman was left right outside our door, just now."
"Just now?" Mulder said. "We would have heard them."
"Not really, who can hear anything over the shouting of Go Knicks!" Scully said looking at him. She walked over to the door.
"Really, some people can be annoying." Mulder said joining her at the door. She looked through the peephole.
"Nothing seems to be out there."
"The peephole seems to neglect the blind spot at the doorway itself." Mulder said opening the door. He looked around then looked down at the large package in a brown bag wraapper. He bent down and gingerly pulled the bag off.Then he rose back up and covered his nose and mouth. There was indeed something in it. It was a open specimen jar. Inside was the body of a small baby dinosaur.
Scully bent down and examined while Mulder rean inside the room to barf."The caller thought maybe this was a alien and thought we would like it."
"But its so not!" Mulder said from the room. He came in. his face a little wet, from having splashed some water on his face. "What do we do with this?"
"I dunno." Scully said. "We have to take it somewhre so it can be preserved and studied."
"Where?" Mulder said as Scully placed the specimen in the bag and carried it in. "Leave it on your room ok?"
Scully placed it on the nightstand. "I know one place we can take it to. Even better I know of someone who works there who can help us with this?"
"Who?" Mulder said. Scully picked up the phone.
"Its someone you know too." She said as she dialed the number.
Across town a cell phone rang. Ross reached down in his pants and grabbed the phone. He flipped it open and raised the phone to his ear."Ross Geller."
(X-files opening credits - Truth is out there is replaced by "So you never thought life would go this way...")
A few minutes later Scully and Mulder have arrived at the girls apartment. They walked in, then got a little confused.
"Isnt this Monicas apartment?" Scully says as she saw Joey in a reclining chair in his underwear.Chandler smiled and waved from
his own chair.
"It was." Joey said getting up, he ran to his room.
"Rachel and Monica lost it on a bet to us. We knew more about them than they knew about us." Chandler finished as Joey quickly pulled some pants on.
"Huh." Scully said. "We're here to meet Ross. He said he would be here."
"Oh he had to run an emergency errand." Chandler said. He got up."So what are you two doing here. I thought you would have left after my doppleganger disappered."
"Chandler theres no such word as that!" Joey joked as he reappeared.
"Yes, there is Joey, it means double and..." Mulder said as Chandler shook his head. "And yeah he totally made it up." He finished as he wondered why Chandler had done that. Maybe somethings are better unsaid he guessed.
"We have something for Ross to look at." Scully said.
"He wont be long." Chandler said.
"Hey guys." Ross said as he came in the door with Rachel. They were holding hands.
"Dana!" Rachel said and hugged Scully. "I thought you guys went back to DC. Whats going on? Is someone copying Joey now?"
"Heaven forbid." Chandler said.
"Hey!" Joey said.
"Ross we have to show you something." Mulder said. Scully showed them the paper bag she had been holding.
"What is that, lunch?" Joey said as Scully brought the bag over to the kitchen table.
"Ross, this is a specimen jar that we found at the foot of our hotel door after we got a mysterious phone call. They assumed it to be of an alien nature."
"So they gave it to you, being the so called x-files experts." Ross said looking at the bag.
"But we looked in the bag it wasnt an alien." Scully said. "In fact it seems to be a early descendent of a dinosaur."
"Huh." Ross said looking at the bag. "I recommend we don't open the bag again till we get to the museum."
"Museum?" Rachel asked.
"Yeah, we have to examine this thoroughly. If you have what we think we do, this could be a major find!" Ross said excitingly. "We can't open the bag, we may damage something impotant." Ross could barely keep still. "I'll get the car, you guys wait here."
"Gee." Rachel said. "I wish he was that excited every time we have sex." Rachel sat at the table.
"Could you come with us?" Scully said. She looked at Mulder "Museums at night scare the beejeezus out of Mulder."
"That and Lord of the dance." Mulder said as Scully collected the bag.
"You too?" Chandler said. He jabbed Joey with a finger. "I'm not the only one."
"Plus it wouldnt kill the guy to wear a shirt for five minutes." Mulder said as Ross came back up.
"I have the car, and my pass key to get in the museum." Ross said clapping his hands together.
"Ross, can I come?" Rachel said as she cooed in his ear. "I love to watch you and your dino things."
"Righteous!" Ross said. "Already things are looking good."
"Okay, lets get the show on the road." Scully said as they went down the stairs.
Museum of natural history
"Now, Scully, can I call you Dana?" Ross said as they walked toward the enterance of the museum. Scully nodded. "How are we gonna go about this? Youre a medical doctor and frankly this is the only dino specimen that wasnt all fossilized material."
"Well, since the specimen appears to be deceased, I think its fair enough to say we can run an autopsy on it." Scully said as Ross let them into the lab. "Whatever this is, its certainly the last of its species."
"Or otherwise you would not have been contacted." Ross said as Scully laid the specimen on a lab counter.
"Precisely, but also we can assume that maybe there was another one and they gave us something to go bye if we wanted to find the other one. But I think the first explanation is more likely."
Mulder sat back and watched Scully and Ross work on opening the specimen case.
"Am I the only one feeling left out here?" Mulder said leaning over.
"Yep." Rachel said. "You ought to see him when he gets really going. You need a Funk and Wagnell to define what he says."
"Ah." Mulder said, offering her a plastic bag. "Sunflower seed?"
"Don't mind if I do." Rachel said grabbing a handfull. "This is gonna be a long night."
Scully and Ross had aprons and gloves on.
"Okay we are getting ready to examine the specimen." Ross said.
Scully reached into her sachel and got a tape recorder. "Today is Febuary 28, 1998 at around 9:30 pm. We are examining a unknown specimen who has reached us through a even more unknown source." Scully spoke into the recorder. "Okay lets make the first cut." She said as she readied the specimen. "Scapel."
Ross handed her the scapel. Scully went to cut as a flap on the creature slid open to her touch. A stench filled the air. Rachel jumped back a foot and opened the window. Mulder joined her by it. Scully and Ross looked at each other.
"Some people." Scully said.
"Yeah." Ross said.
Mulder held up a little bottle. "Smelling salts?"
"Don't mind if I do." Rachel said and took a hefty sniff. She than sat back as she breathed it in. She took in a little too much and go slightly dizzy.
Ross looked over at Rachel.
"Are you all right?" He asks then walks over to him.
"I'll be allright." Rachel said as Scully came over to him.
"Are you sure?" Scully said.
"Yeah." Rachel said. Ross and Scully went back to the table.
"Huh." Ross said. He moved. "Guys we have a problem here."
"What?" Scully said. She looked. The specimen was gone.
"Where did it go?" Ross said as Mulder came over to look. Rachel stood by the window. She sat for a minute when she turned and looked. She screams.
"ROSSSS!!!" She falls to the ground as the so called dead specimen attacks her. It claws at her but doesnt hurt her. The two agents draw their guns.
"Ross, if we shoot it, we wont be able to tell what it is."
Ross thinks. "Destroy it!"
Rachel moves from under the thing and Scully shoots it and misses. the specimen then moves and jumps on her. Scully fights it and suddenly it slumps against her. She looks up. Rachel had gotten the gun Scully dropped when she was attacked. Rachel drops the gun and starts to cry. Ross takes her in his arms and holds her tight.
"It's all right. Baby its all right."
Scully takes off her apron, she looks up as if she heres something walks away in a daze.
"Scully where are you going?" Mulder asks as they follow her. Ross throws the now dead body in a incernerator in the lab. Mulder stands confused as she gets into the car and drives off.
"Scully!" Mulder says as he is left in his partners dust.
