Hard Times
Fresh off filming Death Wish, Charles Bronson is now a tough streetfighter
looking to earn a few bucks on his way through New Orleans in the heart
of the depression. He doesn't arrive in New Orleans with the idea of becoming
a fighter though. First he witnesses the savage practice of professional
pickup fights at the railyard. He sees this gratifying sport and thinks
he might be good at it. After all, he's kicked ass in many previous movies,
why would this be any different! He soon teams up with a manager who's
in heavy debt and needs a way out. In Bronson's first fight, he gives the
guy one solid punch, sending him to the ground. This came as a surprise
to me. I would have imagined a solid punch from Charles Bronson would have
surely killed him. But either way, Bronson wins the fight and his manager
is very intrigued at his possibilities. The two then test him against some
harder opponents, and it's quickly surmised that Bronson is unbeatable.
For the rest of the movie, Bronson goes on about beating opponents in and
out of the "ring". A romance with Jill Ireland never really gets
off the ground, though it's clear that Jill wants Charles bad!
