Chart Commentary

RICKY'S CRAZY HIT "Livin' La Vida Loca" climbs up to no. 1 this week in just its fifth week on the chart becoming the first song by a male solo artist to achieve this since the Notorious B.I.G. spent 2 weeks at no. 1 back in 1997 with "Mo' Money Mo' Problems". Ricky will most likely rule this chart for a couple of weeks until he sees strong competition from Shania Twain, Sixpence None The Richer or even Britney Spears (see below).

GREATEST GAINERS. Britney Spears takes the big honors this week as "Sometimes" moves up 15 spots to land in the top 20 in only it's second week on the chart. The second single from her multi-platinum album "...Baby One More Time" is as catchy as the first one and should have no problem making it all the way. The video is now in heavy rotation and she looks beautiful. Sixpence None The Richer are this week's second greatest gainers as "Kiss Me" goes top 10. And last but not least, there's another new entry in the top 10... "That Don't Impress Me Much" by Shania Twain lands at no. 8. The song's dance remix is very good and it will surely give the single what it needs to be a crossover smash.

WELCOME BACK BOYS. The Backstreet Boys are back with "I Want It That Way". The first single from "Millenium" is off to a good start debuting at no. 26. Other new entries include the latest by Tatyana Ali and female group, 702.

For the week ending on May 15th, 1999.
