CHART COMMENTARY
THEY'RE NOT WASTING ANY TIME... 'N Sync is ready to take charge of the Top 40 chart once again with "It's Gonna Be Me". The single has been showing tremendous gains over the past weeks and has now landed at no. 4, closely behind Britney, Enrique and Mandy. If everything continues at this pace, they should take over in two or three weeks time... assuming the Britney track cools off of course. Another group that should be taken seriously, as a contender for the top spot, is Matchbox Twenty. The guys are no strangers to the top of the chart... "3 A.M." landed at no. 1 back in 1998 and "Bent" has been climbing closely behind the 'N Sync track and could surpass it any moment. Christina Aguilera's "I Turn To You" shouldn't be counted off either, but I don't think this single will have what it takes to be a no. 1 hit like her previous two singles, at least not on this chart. We'll see what happens soon though...
NUTTY-NUTTY-NUTTY FOR HER... Janet (Jackson) is back with a new single called "Doesn't Really Matter". It's from the "Nutty Professor 2 : The Klumps" soundtrack and I just have to say that I'm loving it. She has always been a favorite on this chart and should have no problem becoming a huge hit elsewhere. Some radio stations have added the song early and are already playing, so I guess that's a good sign. Here, it's already charting on the R&B chart and has been climbing steadily since its debut two weeks ago. Expect the song to make its appearance on the Top 40 chart as soon as next week.
COMING UP... Janet- "Doesn't Really Matter", Whitney Houston & Deborah Cox- "Same Script, Different Cast", Hanson- "If Only", Pink "Most Girls", Aaliyah f/ DMX- "Come Back In One Piece" & A-Teens- "Dancing Queen".
For the week ending on June 10th, 2000.
