The Death of Robin: The New Robin

Written by Kevin Bell

(Part Five)

Apartment 135, floor 4: 7:00 P.M.

The boy who had stolen the Robin costume, Grey Potter, put the suit on. It was perfect a fit!

He danced around in it and did his moves. He really felt like Robin! And tonight he was going to go out and really be Robin!

Climbing out the window, Robin perched on the roof, watching the cars below.

He moved near the exit door that lead inside, and hid there, watching the sky.

Batcave: 9:00 P.M.

"NO!" Bruce yelled out. "That little brat took Robin's suit!" Bruce got into the bat suit and waited for the time to go.

'Jackie has escaped once more, but I'll stop him this time, by killing him once and for all! I'll KILL HIM!!!!!!' Batman thought and sat up.

Batman was going out a little sooner tonight. He jumped into the Batmobile and drove off into the night.

With Tim, Gordon, Dick, and Alfred dead, he had gone over the edge, and now a little brat had stolen the Robin suit!

Pulling into Gotham, Batman was getting ready to beat around for the answers onto Jackie's where abouts.

Suddenly a missle crashed into the Batmobile, causing him to spin into a building. 'How in the hell did they find me?' he thought.

Jumping out of the Batmobile, he ran into the shadows, waiting to see what Jackie and his goons would do. He knew it was them, but when would they strike?

*****

"Fire some more rockets near the car and into the corner there and I'll send in the army!" Jackie ordered.

"Yes sir!" the young man said and fired at the car again. It blew up into flames, causing light to shine.

Batman's eyes were filled with burning light, and he knew he found out. He rolled across the street, dodging rockets and went inside the building Jackie was on.

Inside Batman heard guns being readied, and he jumped back outside, missing the bullets.

The men ran out and they couldn't find him. They ran off into the street while Batman, who was hanging onto the wall above the door, went in.

Above Jackie growled. "Okay, he's in and coming up. Bring the copter now!" Jackie barked into a radio.

Looking at the doorway that led from the roof to the building, Jackie pulled out his gun.

The copter flew near Jackie, and he was about to get ready for it when the door busted down.

Smiling Jackie fired his gun, but it had no bullet in the chamber. He frowned and looked scared.

Batman smiled then and advanced. "Don't hurt me!" Jackie cried out. He held out his hands and cowered in fear, the gun hanging.

"Oh, I'll hurt you!" Batman growled as he came closer. Jackie quit cowering as the copter flew over head.

"Well Batman, it was nice killing your brat!" Jackie said and jumped onto the ladder that had been dropped.

Jackie pointed his gun and fired it at Batman. The bullet went through Batman's chest, and he groaned, falling down.

Jackie took aim again at Batman's head when he was kicked from behind. A Robin had swung and hit him!

"What?!?" Jackie cried out as he spun around and saw Robin on the ladder. Robin kicked him in the head and jumped onto the roof and grabbed Batman.

Robin dragged Batman inside the building. "Are you okay?" Robin asked.

"What???? Tim......" Batman said, groaning has he passed out. Robin looked at him puzzled and ripped off part of Batman's cape and held it on the bleeding chest.

Above them Jackie entered the copter. He pulled at a controler and pushed a button. The entire building blew up, with Batman and Robin in it.

(Part Six)

Robin/Grey Potter, climbed out of the burning building, holding the bleeding Batman.

He laid him on the street and stood there panting. The blood was running down the man's chest, and Robin had to do something.

'He called me Tim.....I wonder who he is,' he thought. Grey went over to a phone to call 911 when he heard a groan.

Turning around he saw Batman was moving away. "Wait, you need help!" Grey called out.

Batman turned, holding his chest. "I will not let Jackie get away. I have a tracking device on the copter, and I'm going to find that rat!" he said.

"But......" Robin started, but stopped at the hard and long stare given by Batman.

"You stole the Robin costume, you have not earned it! And until you have, and you won't, you WON'T TALK TO ME!" Batman yelled.

"Who's Tim?" Grey asked.

"You don't want to know!" Batman growled.

"Yes I do!" Grey said.

"No you DON'T!" Batman screamed, losing blood fast with all the talk. "If you don't mind, I'm going!" he said, cold as ice.

Robin/Grey, watched him stumble down the street and into the night. 'There has to be some way I can be Robin for real' Grey thought.

"I have IT! I'll stop Jackie for him!" Grey cried out and took off after Batman.

*****

Batman, holding his chest with a bloody hand, went into the building that the copter went to.

He moved down a hall, hoping that he would run into Jackie any second. Batman had nothing to lose now.

As Batman moved down the hall, he heard a sound from a room down the hall. He walked over to it, almost falling and listened in.

"I killed Batman......hahahahahaha!" Jackie's voice said. Batman smiled and was about to open the door when the fake Robin shoved him aside and ran in.

The room blew up, sending Batman into a wall. "NOOOOOOO!" Batman cried out as he realized that the boy was dead.

Jackie walked down the hall and saw Batman. "I thought you might live through the bomb at the building, but I was sure that you would die in that explosion!" Jackie said, snapping his fingures.

Batman slumped down, holding his chest, breathing in hard. He had lost to much blood, and he about to die too.

All the men had pulled out their sub-machine guns and they were about to fire.

"Any last words Batman?" Jackie asked. Batman fell on the floor, almost out of it.

The men fired their machine guns, the bullets going through Batman, and he was dead.

Jackie laughed, knowing that he was safe. Suddenly a hum went off. He heard Batman's voice saying," I thought that you might kill me, so when I died this was to go off. Your about to see hell real close Jackie!"

The whole building blew up, killing them all.

Epilogue

The new Commissioner stood over the destroyed building. "Looks like Jackie got it, huh?" he asked a police officer.

"Yeah, I heard the Batman was here too," the officer answered.

"Batman? He probally lived," the Commissioner said, turning around and walked off.

The officer picked up a part of someone's cape, the Batman's. "I doubt it, this time," he said and went over to help his fellow mates.

But high above the streets, a dark shadow stood on a buildings ledge, watching everything. It's cape flapped and it was part of the night.

It jumped off, vanishing into the night!
