I make my living translating Czech subtitles for movies shown over here using the official "Subtitle/Spotting Lists" which explain all the unusual words and phrases so that the translation is smooth and reflects the filmmakers' intents. Sometimes, these explanations are less comprehensible than the original sentence they are supposed to explain.
