Matthew David McConaughey was born on November 4, 1969 in Longview, Texas. He was discovered in his junior year of college at the University of Texas. A chance meeting with producer/casting director Don Phillips led to Matthew's role as over-aged slacker Wooderson in Richard Linklater's acclaimed ode to the '70s, "Dazed and Confused." Although the part originally called for just three scenes, with improvisation and new scenes added, Wooderson soon became one of the standout characters in the film. After wrapping "Dazed and Confused," Matthew returned to the university to complete his senior year. Upon graduation, Matthew's original plan was to move to Los Angeles. But on another chance audition, he was cast as the lead in "Return of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre," the fourth installment of the cult film series. Matthew finally packed up and drove to Los Angeles in August 1993. On his fifth day in L.A., he was signed by the William Morris Agency, and his very first Hollywood audition landed him the plum male lead in Herbert Ross' "Boys on the Side," a righteous Tucson cop who takes his name and his job extremely seriously. Previous to beginning his work on "A Time to Kill," Matthew wrapped production on "Larger Than Life," a comedy starring Bill Murray. He also completed a starring role in the acclaimed John Sayles film "Lone Star". He also stars in a short film called Making Sandwiches which his A Time to Kill co-star Sandra Bullock wrote, produced, directed and stars in with him.
