From ABC This smooth operator has sewn up relationships with more women than a matchmaker, yet the one constant in his life is a woman - his wife, Monica. He's lived without her; he just can't love without her. In 1978, even though he was afraid that Monica still loved Dr. Rick Webber, Alan took her to be his wife. Alan was going to divorce Monica in 1982, but he soon realized that she was the only woman who aroused him. After faking his own death in 1986, Alan developed amnesia and began a new life calling himself Simon. Suffering from a mid-life crisis, Alan ill-advisedly wed Lucy Coe. In 1991, Alan remarried Monica. Alan accidentally killed bruiser Ray Conway in 1993. Being a Quartermaine, number-one son Alan learned early on, meant several things: being browbeaten, being discounted and generally dissed. One woman - his wife, Monica - not only understands those special pressures that Alan is under, she contributes to them! Alan arrived in Port Charles from Southampton in 1977 as the guest of Dr. Rick Webber, who needed someone to fund the new cardiac wing of General Hospital. Although Alan wrapped up his business in town the following year, he couldn't wrap up his relationship with Dr. Monica Webber, and so, he made Port Charles his new home. Alan married Monica in 1978, but he was haunted by the fear that she still was in love with her old flame, Rick. Thinking that Monica and Alan's son, Alan Jr., was actually Rick's child, Alan plotted to murder the lovers in 1980. At the last minute, realizing he'd be the only suspect, Alan saved their lives. A year later, with his and Monica's marriage in terrible disrepair, Alan began an affair with Susan Moore, who bore him a second child, Jason. Alan was all ready to divorce Monica in 1982 when he became impotent; it turned out, the only woman who could arouse him was his own wife. In 1986, Alan and his whole family were thrown out of their home by Monica, who had bankrupted them with her lover and partner in crime Sean Donnelly. Attempting to frame Sean, Alan faked his own murder and disappeared to Pautuck, N.Y., where he assumed a new identity, Simon. After a blow to the head left Alan thinking he really was simple Simon, Monica fell in love with him all over again. After Alan sabotaged Monica's bid to become the assistant chief of staff of General Hospital, she retreated to a spa, and he fell prey to the charms of Lucy Coe, who gleefully announced that she was expecting a Quartermaine heir (which she later miscarried). Once Alan had divorced Lucy, he reconciled with and remarried Monica in 1991. It wasn't long, though, before another woman entered the picture: Rhonda Wexler, the alcoholic mother of Jason's girlfriend, Karen. Although Alan and Rhonda weren't actually having an affair, he was very protective of her. In 1993, he went so far as to kill, albeit accidentally, her old boyfriend, Ray Conway, who had beaten her and abused Karen. When Monica underwent a mastectomy in 1994, Alan was right there for her, although she wasn't sure if she wanted him to be. Alan supported Monica's decision to take in Emily, the daughter of her friend, cancer victim Page Bowen, but that wasn't all that Monica needed. She felt ugly and succumbed to the advances of their colleague, Dr. Pierce Dorman. Even after Alan learned of the affair - and while Dorman falsely accused her of sexual harassment - his devotion to his wife didn't waver. He seems to have come to terms with the fact that if there's one thing he hates more than Monica, it's being without her. Alan resides in the Quartermaine Mansion at 66 Harbor View Rd. in Port Charles, New York.
