From ABC Once an irresponsible party girl, this former flight attendant finally was grounded by the one thing that could keep her on Cloud Nine: love. As the wife and now the widow of longtime chief of staff Dr. Steve Hardy, she is the heart of General Hospital. In 1964, Audrey came to Port Charles to visit her sister, Lucille March, a senior nurse at General Hospital. Afraid that she never would be a good enough wife for Steve, Audrey accepted junior executive Randy Washburn's proposal instead. Steve and Audrey wed for the first time in 1965. Eager to begin a family, Audrey had herself secretly, artificially inseminated. When Steve found out, he left her. After marrying Drs. Tom Baldwin and Jim Hobart, Audrey finally remarried Steve in 1977. They raised her and Tom's son, Tom Jr., together. Audrey's life changed forever when Steve passed away in 1996. The minute Dr. Steve Hardy caught a glimpse of the former Audrey March, he was a goner. First impressions rarely last, and they're even more rarely accurate, but in Steve's case, his impression of Audrey was on the mark: She was the one for him. Over the course of their relationship, Audrey sometimes wondered if she really was the kind of woman Steve needed. Maybe she wasn't always. But by the time Steve passed away, Audrey had become everything he ever needed or wanted. She first set foot in Port Charles in 1964, on a trip to visit her sister, Lucille, a senior nurse at General Hospital. Lucille disapproved of Audrey because, although her wild sister was trained as a nurse, she was wasting her skills working as a flight attendant. Steve approved of Audrey, though; for him, it was love at first sight. After she began working as a private nurse for junior executive Randy Washburn, she soon found herself with two marriage proposals on the table - one from her playboy patient, the other from Steve. Fearing she would never be the kind of wife a dedicated doctor like Steve needed, Audrey accepted Randy's proposal. When she came down with lymphoma, Randy found the nearest exit. Audrey recovered, Steve worked up the nerve to propose again, and this time, she accepted. They wed in 1965. But their marriage wasn't always a solid one. Because Steve was sterile, Audrey had herself artificially inseminated - secretly! When Steve found out, even though it turned out that he wasn't sterile after all, he left her. Audrey miscarried their baby in a car accident and left for Vietnam to work with orphans. By the time Audrey returned to Port Charles, she had a new husband: ill-tempered Dr. Tom Baldwin. To prove to him (and to herself) that she was over Steve, she became pregnant with Tom's child. As Tom became ever more surly, Audrey became ever more eager to extricate herself from their marriage. When she finally did obtain a divorce, she told Tom that their son had been stillborn. In reality, Tom Jr. was alive and well, and secretly living with a babysitter, Mrs. Nelson. Audrey kept this secret for months, and when a greedy Mrs. Nelson was murdered, Audrey went on trial and was cleared when the killer turned out to be a gentleman friend of Mrs. Nelson's. When Tom found out that his son was alive, he kidnapped the boy but died shortly thereafter. Audrey was joyously reunited with her son. After Audrey's disastrous, short-lived marriage to two-timing Dr. Jim Hobart drove her to a suicide attempt, she finally reunited with Steve in 1977, and they remarried. Together, the Hardys raised a fine son, Tom, and became as much the foundation of General Hospital as the ground upon which its facilities were built. In 1991, Audrey became a mother again - sort of. When Tom, now a respected psychiatrist, left for Africa and his estranged wife, Simone Ravelle, headed for Romania, the care of their young son, Tommy, was left to Audrey. Her life changed forever in 1996, when the love of her life, Steve, passed away. The following year, Audrey nearly died when she stumbled upon a hostage situation on the hospital's sixth floor. When she was hit on the head by crazed intern Greg Cooper, Audrey sustained a serious injury that required immediate attention. Thanks to impromptu efforts of GH's new interns, her life was saved. Audrey's maternal instincts have been put to the test once again with the arrival of her two teenage granddaughters, Sarah and Elizabeth Webber. Audrey resides at 453 Maple Ave. in Port Charles, New York.
