Dara Jensen

From ABC

An ace prosecutor, the district attorney of Port Charles is called upon time and again to reevaluate not only her job but also the very definitions of right and wrong.

In 1996, Dara prosecuted Laura Spencer for the murder of Damian Smith, never realizing that the real culprit was defense attorney Justus Ward.

Later, Dara questioned Justus' motives when he gave up his practice to become a corporate attorney for his newly discovered grandfather, Edward Quartermaine.

That same year, Dara endeavored to put Dr. Kevin Collins behind bars for his stalking of Felicia Jones.

In Dara Jensen's line of work, it pays to be strong. A weak district attorney is an ineffectual one. To put it mildly, Dara is effective. But, for better or for worse, she's also decidedly human. She examines her own motives as closely as any accused criminal's. As a result, she's a D.A. who serves the people of Port Charles by first and foremost serving herself well. In 1996, the legal eagle prosecuted Laura Spencer for the murder of mobster Damian Smith. What was at issue, she argued, wasn't whether Damian deserved to die, but whether Laura had any right to kill him. In the end, though Dara argued her case brilliantly, Laura was acquitted. She had met her match in the attorney for the defense - Justus Ward. (Little did Dara or, for that matter, Laura, know that Justus had added incentive to get the charges against Laura dropped: He himself had offed Damian!) That trial, for Dara, was the beginning of a beautiful friendship. She and Justus began comparing notes on life and law, and became so close that when he went into corporate practice with his newly discovered grandfather, Edward Quartermaine, she questioned whether he would find that rewarding. It just didn't jibe with what they'd both always said was important to them - making a difference. Dara had to ask herself those same hard questions when she was called upon to prosecute Dr. Kevin Collins for stalking Felicia Jones. She knew in her heart that Kevin was no criminal but rather, an exceedingly disturbed man. But it was her job to prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law. The case ran Dara ragged emotionally. She caught it from all sides. Felicia accused her of soft-pedaling the case. Kevin's lover, Lucy Coe, accused her of being heartless. "I'm just doing my job" became Dara's mantra. Even after Felicia decided to drop the charges against Kevin, Dara couldn't drop the case; by then, it was part of the legal system, not something that Felicia could switch on and off on a whim. Eventually, Dara was able to work out a compromise that made all of the concerned parties comfortable. Hers is one of the hardest jobs in all of Port Charles, but she does it exceptionally well.
