Oh boy! One of them "big" toys!
Large Transformers are usually pretty cool: Metroplex, Trypitcon, Jetfire,
Skorponok, and of course, who could forget, Fortress Maximus. Generally,
although they lacked a lot of joints and articulation, they had tons
of weapons and multiple transformations. But this toy, Gen 2 tank Megatron,
fails to deliver.
Vehicle mode: Looks pretty cool, with a few gimmicks availible. The
cannon makes a coupla sounds, and so do wheels underneath. Not much u can
do with it, but he huge cannon makes up for the lack of moving parts and
stuff. If the turret could rotate independently, it woulda been cool. But
my main gripe is the size. If your gonna make him the size of Metroplex,
at least let him do
more stuff. Metroplex was a city. And as it is, his toy should been
bigger. This Megatron is a tank. It just doesn't look right to have him
stand out like that. A big fat tank. With a questionable color scheme.
Okay to me, so will like it, so won't.
Robot mode: Utterly disappointing. The Combat Hero Megs had more articulation
than this. Pathetic. It's like a brick. And that tiny little gun looks
ridiculous in his huge hands. You can't even swivel the waist around. The
head is OK. If you ask me, either they shoulda made him smaller, with more
joints, or kept him that size and kept him a gun. A big, unmovable brick
doesn't cut
it. On the upside, that monster cannon is availible in this mode as
well as tank mode. This baby rocks! It shoots pretty far, and you don't
gotta constantly reload, cuz it holds multiple missles. The one redeeming
grace.
Final thoughts: If you were to get one G2 toy, this would not be it.
not for full price, at least. But i got him at a KB clearance for ten bucks,
so it was more worth it. If you don't mind the lack of poseability, think
about it. For the die-hard collector, its a no-brainer: u gotta have Megatron.
If you've got a limited budget, don't pick it up unless for sentimental
value. If you shelled out more than twenty bucks for it, u got ripped off.
Suckers.
