Vehicle mode: Very futuristic tractor trailer mode. Instantly recognizable as an Optimus Prime truck mode. Generation 1 Autobot symbol on both sides of trailer. Made in traditional Prime format. Missle lauchers can fire in this mode. Cab cannot turn independently from trailer , making it impossible to make realistic turns in truck mode. Plastic wheels , no axels. Small amount of clear blue plastic here and there. Nice truck overall.
Transformation: The cab turns into the robot with ease itself , just remember to bring the head only half way up to pull out the arms. Trailer turns into base with more complicated transformation steps , nothing too hard however. The trailer sides have to be positioned properly to avoid collapse of the towering base mode. They can be positioned in a numer of ways to accomidate most surfaces.
Robot/Battle station mode: Only the arms are poseable at the elbows. The legs are fixed together , but can move a little too. This guy still has his hand gun , a little black rifle , which doesn't look to neat. Robot colors are red , purple , grey and olive green. I think the color pattern might have been better if the purpke was replaced with blue as depicted on the box photos. Has a cool Generation one Autobot logo with wings on chest , very nice. But alas , the face bears no resemblence to the infamous Optimus Prime we all know and love. It's a more human face with a mouth and nose , looks kinda like a cross between Rodimus Prime's face and Ultra Magnus's face. The base that the trailer turns into is much cooler than the robot. It towers at a whopping 16 inches , and even higher when Prime takes the command post at the top of it. The missle lauchers fire two missles. The original Thunderclash fired about 16 missles , with a rapid lock and load gimmick. This is absent from this recolor , but the bombbay doors are still on top of the missle lauchers. All in all , the base mode saves this otherwise mediocre Optimus reincarnation.
Weapons: Other than the two missle lauchers on the trailer , all he has is that little whimpy hand gun. The trailer base mode also has a fixated big black laser cannon for show. It doesn't fire anthing but looks slick.
Other notes: The top of the base mode is easily detachable and you might be able to use it as an extra shuttle mode if you are imaginative enough.
Overall: Not so hot robot is made up for by a cool vehicle and base mode. I perfer keeping this guy in truck mode all the time , it's just so cool and classic looking.
