(sung by Captain America and Sarah)
Sung by: Captain America
The Army gave me super-strength
But you gave me love
And now I must
Choose betwen the two
My place is here, by your side
But I still have a job to do
And I can never come back home
And I can never come back home
I have a responsibility
To every woman, child and man
I can't let them down
You must understand
Sung by: Sarah
I love you, Steve
And I knew it goin' in
That we could never be as one
But know that I will
Always love you tenderly
But know that I will
Always love you tenderly
This song's music was written on January 7, 2007 and the words followed on January 8.
I was playing guitar at night, trying to be quiet and came up with this, just like for track #12.
I recorded a quick demo of this on February 18, 2007.
Originally, I had always envisioned the ending to the album as a big rousing number culminating in the defeat of the Red Skull.
As I worked more and more on the album it became apparent to me that there needed to be some closure between
Captain America and his girlfriend, so I wrote this song. This is one of my favorites out of the whole bunch.
As a side note to that comment above about the ending being a rousing number, one of the jokes we had going back
when this all started was a stage with Captain America on a slowly rising platform with fireworks going off all
around him and a huge American flag being unfurled behind him. So when I say "rousing", this is what I think of.
