Jonathan Jackson
GENERAL HOSPITAL (Lucky Spencer) Emmy for "Outstanding Younger Actor". 14 years old. Born: 11 May Fav.Actor: Christian Slater. He played the lead roll in a film called Camp Nowhere. In the film he's name is Morris "Mud" Himmel. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Although Jonathan Jackson, popular teen actor on the daytime soap opera "General Hospital" and winner of the 1995 Daytime Emmy, Soap Opera Award, seemed confused about his age when we spoke, who can blame him? After all, he works 50 weeks a year, 5 days a week portraying "Lucky", Luke and Laura's son, on "General Hospital". There is no hiatus as they "shoot" "General Hospital" year-round. "When I went on a family vacation a few years ago, and we visited Universal Studios, I wanted so much to be an actor, to be a part of it, " Jackson confessed. "Now, I see it's a lot of hard work - it's hard not getting much time off. It doesn't give me a chance to audition for other parts, either."
He did, however, find time to star in his "first" film - the 1994 film "Camp Nowhere", about several kids who found a sneaky way to invent their own camp. I asked Jackson if he'd like to do something like that. "I don't think I'd have the guts to!' he laughed. But, he felt the movie, "Camp Nowhere", gave him valuable experience in doing films, and he just recently starred in another film - ABC's television movie, "The Ruby Silver".
Talented, with natural good looks, Jackson doesn't seem like he needs acting lessons, but he said that he tries to learn from the other actors on "General Hospital". "I just watch carefully what they do, and I try to do what I think they do best, " he said. Although there is an acting coach on the set of "General Hospital", he prefers learning from the other actors since they are all very talented. Since Jackson has been portraying Lucky for 2 1/2 years now, he's had many chances to observe his fellow actors on the set.
By the way, girls, if you are drooling over Jackson, which you probably are, I have bad news for you. Jackson has a girlfriend. Her name is Jenny, and she's an actress from Ohio. Periodically she comes to California to audition, and to see Jackson, who certainly is cute.
But cute or not, Jackson said you have to have just the "right" look for a part before you even get an audition. "It's 70 % looks," Jackson stated. "Then when you do auditions, and you screw up, you just have to ask if you can start over. And when you don't get a part you wanted, you just have to know, it's not your fault. You just didn't have the look, or whatever."
Jackson certainly has the right look to be the popular teen star that he is - even though he's working too many hours to be spotted on the street!
