Anti-Hansonites:

If you are one of those people who, for whatever reason, have gone beyond just not liking Hanson to the realm of Anti-Hanson, it is you I am addressing. You might be quiet about it, or maybe you're one of the people that I've met who can't talk about them without swearing. Whoever you are, please just read the following, which is what Hanson said on VH1: Storytellers.

Some Guy: Um, like, all bands, when they become big, or whatever, I mean, they all get criticism. So, I'm wondering, how do you guys deal with that, or what do you think of it?
Tay: Wow. Well, I mean, the thing is, no matter what age you are, or whoever you are, you're always going to get criticized if you say, you know, whether you're big or small, you know. So, a lot of people criticize us cuz we're young or- and we always say, well, what if we were old, you'd criticize us and I guess no matter what you are, they're gonna criticize you. But the thing is, it's about, it's about being-
Zac: No matter what, they find something wrong with you, so you've just got to deal with it.
Ike: I don't know, I mean how do you deal with it, you know, you just play your music and make the music that you feel- the important thing is that people like you guys are enjoying the music and having fun with that and that's, that's-
Tay: Yeah, that's all we care about, the other, you know, the other stuff- we're just here to play music and have fun doing it so, you know, you can criticize us all you want.
*LOUD APPLAUSE*

Okay, I'm done with exhibit number one. If you're actually reading this, congratultions. A lot of people can't stand reading something from a different perspective. Now for a few more reasons to at least leave the Hanson Brothers alone. (It should be noted that I'm not trying to turn you into a fan, I'm just trying to help you see why you could respect them, even if you don't like them.)

*The long-hair/girls argument: First of all, most of the fans agree that they don't look like girls. Long hair does NOT mean you are female. Take a look at Kurt Cobain. Was there any doubt about his gender? I think not. And if you still think they look like girls, I have a question for you: So what? You don't have to like how they look to respect them as people. (And by the way, there *are* three Hanson girls: Jessica, Avery, and Zoe. I assure you, however, that Ike, Tay, and Zac all have fully functional Y chromosomes.)
Update: Ike has cut his hair, and let's just say I liked it better long. Same goes for Tay, although his isn't as bad. Zac's is still pretty long.

*Their music abilities: I personally think that their music is great, and refreshing after so much I-hate-my-life-so-I'm-gonna-be-stupid kind of music. Of course, now there is a lot more upbeat music such as Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls, and 'N Sync, to name a few. But there's just something more attractive to me in three brothers showing us their outlook on life. They all play instruments, write songs, and sing. What could be wrong with that? I've been told that their music is, "putzy", but I find the lyrics deep and meaningful. Other people would rather listen to alternative or hard rock. Again, we are faced with the question, So what? You don't have to like their music type to like their music, and you don't have to like their music to appreciate some of the talent that they have and all of the work they do for the profession that they love.

*The comments about puberty: Hello! Two of them have already hit puberty, with Zac not far behind. If you've heard them recently, you'd notice that they sing a LOT lower than they used to. End of discussion.
Update: All three of the brothers have now successfully entered adolescence.

*How they dress: Okay, I have to admit, I've seen them in some pretty bad outfits, and some of their style took a little adjusting to, but I've come to realize that it's not how they dress that matters. It's how they act toward one another and the fans. I never used to like leather pants, but after seeing them on Taylor, I got a whole new perspective. You, the reader, may not have, but, once again, so what? You don't even have to approve of how they dress. Just try to understand that some of us LIKE it.

Well, I hope I've given you some food for thought. There is really no good reason to hate these three brothers who have dedicated themselves to making teenagers around the world happier (and, in some cases, crazier). You may not see why some of us get the way we do, but, I assure you, that is no reason to start bashing them or us. A lot of you are probably jealous, deep down. If not, I can't think of any other way to explain the things that go on over the Internet and in real life. I hope that someone reading this will recognize themselves and remember my words when they next meet up with a Hanson fan.

One last note: This whole page is devoted to the theme of TOLERANCE. It is designed to take arguments against Hanson and flip them around, hopefully so that people will stop to think about what they are doing to Hanson and the fans every time that they use profanity or improper language to express their views on Hanson. I am NOT trying to get all of you to convert to being fans. In fact, the less fans in my way, the greater my chance of meeting them.

If anyone wants me to add something to this list, or if you want to debate an issue I've raised here (CIVILLY), feel free to drop me an email. Also, you can go sign my guestbook, if you feel up to it. Thanks for reading all of this!

*Steps off of soapbox*
