My Netiquette Crash Course
Netiquette is a cute little term for Internet etiquette. Since I started spending a lot of time on the Internet, I've had a chance to develop certain pet peeves about how people use it. I hope by posting this I can educate the public (or at least those who visit my site) on the proper way to write in a chat room, over email, or on a webpage. Please don't be offended - I am hardly authoritative on this or any subject. My ideas may not reflect your ideas, but please try to respect them. Nuff said - let's get going!
Rachel's Top Ten Pet Peeves
- PEOPLE WHO INSIST ON WRITING EVERYTHING IN CAPS. (This is equivalent to screaming and is considered very rude, not to mention annoying.)
- people who write entire paragraphs without using a single capital letter punctuation mark or line break (This is almost as annoying as CAPS. Sure, I don't expect flawless grammer, but punctuation was invented to make reading easier, so please use it. Also, there's a little button called "Shift" that you might want to learn how to use.)
- Peepul whoo can't spel wurth a darrn. (Sure, typos happen. Some words can be difficult to spell. But there's a limit. If you don't know how to spell something, pull out a dictionary, or use a word you can spell.)
- Lots of exclamation points!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (OK! Calm down, we get the point! If it's big news, like you met Hanson, go right ahead. Otherwise, use no more than three at the end of each sentence - and not every sentence.)
- Chain letters. (Need I say more?)

- Swearing. (Once in a while, I understand. But when it gets to the point of every other word, gosh darn it, it's time to cut back a little.)
- People who are only after one thing. (Am I hot? No, just about room temperature. C'mon, you guys, if that's what you spend your time doing, I don't really want to know you.)
- Posers. (Yeah, like Hanson would ever go online and admit to their identities in a chat room.)
- Anybody with a prejudice. (This is the Internet. This is supposed to be a free flow of information, where no one is obligated to put up with stereotypes and can be judged for who they truly are. Why should my age, sex, race, religion, music interest, or anything else affect who will talk to me? In fact, I find it more interesting to talk to those with viewpoints different from my own - if they will respect my opinions.)
So now you know what bothers me. Or at least some of what bothers me. What can I do about it? you ask yourself. Well, for starts, you can click here...
