But it's only recently that Love--as she's known to her friends--has begun to generate a buzz. The main reason is her sexy leather-jacket role in Rescue Me, a John Hughes-style teen romance due out in March. "I play the sort of girl you would picture Alanis Morrisette to have been in high school," she says.
That's quite a change from Hewitt's girl-next-door role on the Fox series Party of Five, the show that also launched the careers of Neve Campbell and Scott Wolf. It's also not something she's completely comfortable with. "I just think it's so funny," Love says of the sex-symbol status. "I don't see it at all."
Clearly, others do. Even her romance with Will Friedle--Eric on TV's Boy Meets World--who plays her love interest in the film, is a hot item on the Hollywood teen scene. Love, however, just wants to continue her recording career--she has three CDs--and land more film roles: "I'd really like to do a period piece. Or a great romantic comedy, like Sleepless in Seattle."
