Aliens

ALIENS

James Horner

Rating:

This score is one of my favorites of all time. It's not the pefect score but if your a James Horner fan than this score is a real "scare."

Well here's my response to Aliens:--In depth response track by track...remember I'm not a music major but I know good music when I hear it...Also check out Elmo's track order at this site... Aliens Track Order

Track 1--(Main Title)Great Track even though it's stolen from 2001 and used in Patriot Games and CAPD. This of course is the opening of the movie while the credits roll and they look into Ripley's ship The Nostromo). This track has that eerie feeling almost like a foreshadow itself.

Track 2--Going After Newt--This of course takes place at the end of the movie when the station is in critical condition and Ripley gets her machinery ready and goes down to Sub-Level 3 to look after Newt.. This of course is a great action-drama sequence that is used in trailers and other stuff. Nothing really totally special about this track of course except you know that something is about to happen and is one of the few tracks that all Horner fan's can appreciate...I know my heart beats a little faster while this plays.

Track 3--Sub-Level 3--Well this track is self explanitory. This of course when the crew are going down to look for Aliens and see the containers holding 3 aliens. The 5:26 mark really comes to a creepy slow when all of a sudden a burst at the 5:54 mark when Newt is jumping from one side of the screen to the next(thought to be an alien on radar but not.) The the final 32 seconds of the track takes place when one of the humans is cocooned but wakes up and gets killed by an alien of course.

Track 4--Ripley's Rescue--This track opens with a great fast paced percussion and orchestra. The track remains steady until 2:03(with a theme reminicent to the Klingon theme from Star Trek: The Search For Spock when you all of a sudden get a nice cow bell solo while the rest of the orchestra plays alongside and stops and continues with the klingon theme... then back to the way the track started again. (This track is when Ripley goes after the crew being killed by the aliens with the ATV.

Track 5--Atmosphere Station--This is a slow track with some eerie music which sounds like #3 but less evocative. (I'm not really crazy about this track but still gives me some chills)

Track 6--Futile Escape--This track is a really great piece even though that this piece is jumbled around so much that hardly some of it isn't used in the final film. If you want to see the the way the track goes check Elmo's vortex here--->Aliens Track Order The track starts off really slow with a building transistion until 3:08 when you have some climatic battling music against the aliens even though part of it sounds like Star Trek 3 but nevertheless the effect is great.

Track 7--(Dark Discovery)--This was supposed to be used early in the film but like Elmo say's this was only used when the Jordan Family (Mom, Dad, Newt and little Tommy)find and discover the alien spaceship.

Track 8--Bishop's Countdown--While the landing pad where Bishop was staying to await Ripley and Newts arrival the pad became unstable because of the explosions of the station. But here we hear Bishop recuing Ripley and Newt just in time before the mother alien as them. Part of this track is used in more trailers than a lot of other Horner's stuff. The track opens like mentioned in the 2nd sentence until 0:19 when the ship is leaving the planet's atmoshere..note at 1:07 until 1:26 - the trailer music and then slows down when they have just escaped the exploding atmoshere and causes a huge spacequake. This is also is when Ripley thanks Bishop, etc.

Track 9--Beginning of the track until 0:58 isn't used in the film when the "Mother Alien" is sucked out into space and then settles to a nice slow peaceful music when Newt, Bishop, Hicks and Ripley are in their sleep until 2:44 when the closing credits roll...from 2:44 until the last :41 is heard just like the beginning of the cd(Main Title) and then the final 40 seconds are one final note from the aliens theme(to say)

Well all in all this score isn't the best but isn't the worst of my list either. However I still have it high on my list at #10 right now. This score isn't the by Horner fans the best ever but a lot of them really like it a lot. This score isn't supposed to be pleasant and regarded as the top but if you like to sit back and let your self be scared to death then this score fits really nicely on your list. I must also note that this score is one my top 5 list of all scarry scores.

So overall my rating again is on the top and if you dissagree then don't hesitate to email me.
