I already have a catagory for the ladies movies, or "chick flicks" in my Best Date Movie, now I am giving out my nominations for movies for men. Guys' movies, with loads of testosterone and violence (and if there is no violence, there better be some cool special effects). So here are my nominees for Best Action Movie (although at least two of them are considered more of a sci-fi movie, but it is still a guys' movie).

The 2000 Nominees for Best Action Movie are...

Fight Club, ©1999 20th Century Fox
Fight Club

Although I dislike Brad Pitt strongly and I think Ed Norton is kind of a scrawny little girlie man (and I mean that in the best way possible), I still thought their latest project together, Fight Club was a pretty cool movie. Pitt's and Norton's characters start a secret club of men who start out by just starting fights, but end up being an army for Pitt's psychotic fantasies... plus there is a nice suprise twist at the end.

The Matrix, ©1999 Warner Brothers
The Matrix

This was just such a cool movie... there is not much else you can really say. The Matrix has everything you could really want; a cool story, awesome special effects, kick ass fight scenes, and (even with Keanu Reeves) good acting. Not to mention probably the coolest action sequence of the year. If you want a cool action/sci fi movie, it has to be this one.

OK, so this may not seem to fit with the other movies in this catagory, but The Mummy has some cool stuff in it. First off, a 3000 year old mummy, now what's cooler than that. It also has some cool action scenes, good computer effects, and it had some really funny parts too. I know it is hard to think of Branden Fraser as an action star, but in this movie he pulls it off.

Star Wars, Episode I: The Phantom Menace, © 1999 Lucasfilm>

This movie definitely fits more into the Sci-Fi catagory than Action, but it had lots of great special effects and some cool action. A lot of critics said Star Wars, Episode I: The Phantom Menace just didn't live up to the original trilogy... and while that may be true, it is still a pretty cool movie. How can you not want to see the story of young Anakin (Jake Lloyd) and his struggle with The Force? I mean, COME ON!!
