Ah, high school. That's what American Pie reminds me off. From the jocks like Stiffler (Seann William Scott) and Oz (Chris Klein), the intellectuals like Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas), and the sexually frustrated guys like Jim (Jason Biggs) and Kevin (Thomas Ian Nichols)... they were all there in my high school. Hell, I was two of them myself (I'll let you guess which two). |
Say it with me now... YEAH BABY, YEAH!!!! It may seem like that phrase has been around forever, and I know some of you are entirely sick of Austin and his swinging shindigs... but not me. I still think the original Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, and this latest installment Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me are two of the funniest movies ever. Mike Myers thought up a gold mine when he came up with Austin and his nemesis, Dr. Evil... and I am looking forward to a long line of Austin movies (like the James Bond series). |
As you may know, I am a big Kevin Smith (the writor and director of Dogma, Chasing Amy, Mallrats and the classic, Clerks... aka "Silent Bob") fan. I think he is very good at writing funny scripts with funny characters, and he can turn them into very funny movies with little or no budget. He has made such a name for himself that he is starting to draw some big name actors to his projecs. Like in this comedy about religion he got Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Chris Rock and Salma Hayek with cameos from people like George Carlin and Alanis Morissette. Now Matt and Ben can't be wrong, can they? 'Nuff said. |
You might be asking yourself, "Why does he have this movie in the Best Comedy catagory... isn't this more of a chick flick, date movie?" Well the answer is yes, and if you check my Best Date Movie Nominees you will see it is there too... but it also happens to be one of the funniest movies of the summer with one of the funniest characters. Hugh Grant's flatmate **** is one of the most eccentric, original and funny characters I have ever seen. He is a perfect contract to Hugh Grant's foppish Britishness (I don't think that was a real adjective until now). Plus, Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant have a great on-screen chemistry. |
