Mikey's Video Review Page

Welcome to my video review page!!!  I realize that videos are as much a part of motion pictures as movie in the theater are so I started up this video page.  It will have five sections; A Featured Spotlight of the Month, New Releases, Coming Soon, my own Favorites, and a section on AFI's Top 100.

Christmas Movies

Christmas time is my favorite time of year... and it isn't just because I get presents (although I do like presents).  So it would seem logical that Christmas Movies would be one of my favorite genres, and it is.  So here are my suggestions for movies to go rent during your time off from school or work later this December.

P.S.  If you are not Christian then just disregard these selections, and please do not take offense.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (1966)

A perennial classic.  I still love to watch the Grinch on TV every year.

    A Christmas Story (1983)

Starring: Peter Billingsley and Melinda Dillon

Probably my favorite Christmas movie. Little Ralphie tries to convince his parents to buy him a BB Gun for Christmas.

    Miracle on 34th Streer (1994)

Starring: Richard Attenborough and Dorey Walker

A remake of the classic Christmas movie.  Kriss Kringle is put on trial and has to prove he is Santa Claus.

    The Santa Clause (1994)

Starring: Tim Allen and Eric Lloyd

Tim Allen becomes Santa Claus when he puts on the red Santa suit of a man who falls off his roof, falling victim to the legal fine print of The Santa Clause.

Coming Next Month: Christmas Movies

    Drop Dead Gorgeous

Starring: Kirsten Dunst, Kirstie Ally and Denise Richards

It has its moments, but I would never call it a classic. Plus, the Minnesota accents get annoying (especially when you are from Minnesota).

    Deep Blue Sea

Starring: Samuel L. Jackson and Saffron Burrows

A big ol' waste of time. Unless you think special effects can carry a really bad movie, don't even bother.

    Wild Wild West

Starring: Will Smith, Kevin Kline and Salma Hayek

Great song by Will Smith. Unfortunately the movie kind of bites, oh well... even Will can't do everything perfect all the time.

    Southpark: Bigger, Longer and Uncut
    ¾
Voices of: Trey Parker, Matt Stone, et al

Can you believe it?  They made a Southpark movie.  And yes it does have a lot of profanity, but it is still f%*#ing funny.

    American Pie ¼

Starring: Jason Biggs, Chris Klein, Thomas Ian Nichols and Eddie Kaye Thomas
      December 21, 1999

Four high school guys vow to lose their virginity by graduation.  Of course, hilarity ensues... if you like "gross out comedy" you will love America Pie.

    An Ideal Husband ¾

Starring: Rupert Everett, Juliana Moore, Cate Blanchett and Minnie Driver
      December 21, 1999

Based on Oscar Wilde's play of the same name, An Ideal Husband is set in 1890's London and is a good light hearted and smart comedy.

    Mystery Men

Starring: Ben Stiller, Hank Azaria, William H. Macy, Janeane Garofalo, et al.
      January 11, 1999

A spoof of comic book movies, like Batman.  It has some very funny moments, but they are few and far between.

    The Princess Bride

Starring: Cary Elwes and Robin Wright

This is my favorite movie of all time, no joke.  I could watch it a thousand times.  In fact I even own the book.

Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery
Starring: Mike Myers and Mike Myers

Yeah baby, Yeah!  A great comedy that spoofs spy movies.  Mike Myers does it again!

    Billy Madison

    Starring: Adam Sandler

The first of Adam Sandler's comedy classics.  Sandler plays a likable loser who makes good... and it works!

    Happy Gilmore
    Starring: Adam Sandler

Adam Sandler's second comedy hit.  Sandler plays a likable loser who makes good, again... and it works... AGAIN!

#100

    Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942) ½
    Starring: James Cagney
Oscar Nominations: 8, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Story
Oscars: 3, Best Actor-James Cagney, Best Sound Recording and Best Scoring of a Musical Picture

The patriotic life story of composer, actor, playwright and patriot George M. Cohan.  Pretty good even though it is a little dated, but what do you expect from a movie made in 1942.

Coming Soon: # 99 - Guess Who's Coming To Dinner
