The Cage
Cages were commonly used to imprison delinquents even inside a prison , but mostly the full-sized cages  were placed or suspended on the outside where they had a similar purpose than the pillories with the exception that the prisoner was left in the cage until his death .

This device can also be considered as a body cage imprisoning the delinquent at his waist , the wrists  and the shoulders .

Attachments for chains are provided at the top of the iron bands to give the possibility to suspend the victim or chain it to the dungeon wall .

A hinged iron band goes in between the legs and closes at the back

This drawing is an exact depiction of an iron body cage used in 16th century Germany

If now you think "This is not TOO bad  after all !'  consider the sharp iron spike shown on the detail drawing !
