Cotton Weary

Cotton Weary was convicted for the rape and murder of Maureen Prescott, Sidney's mother. Sidney testified in court that she saw Cotton leave her house the night of her mother's murder, and now he's in prison waiting to be executed. Actually, all she saw was someone leave wearing Cotton's jacket.

According to Cotton, he was drunk and Mrs. Prescott had seduced him. He had slept with her and then snuck out of the house in the middle of the night. He was so drunk he thouht he had lost his jacket or forgot to take it. But the next morning the police found him asleep in his car with the bloodstained jacket lying next to him.

Since Gale has done the story on the murders, he bagan talking to her while in prison, trying to get his side of the story across. It seemed she was the only one willing to believe him. Although, he was not totally convinced that she cared more about his freedom than the money and fame it would bring her.

Is it possible that Cotton was framed? Who else would commit such a crime against a poor housewife?
