Gale Weathers is a news reporter for Top Story (kind of a B-Budget version of America's Most Wanted or Hard Copy). She did all the reports on the murder of Maureen Prescott and then decided to write a book about it. She constantly visited Cotton Weary in prison and decided that maybe Sidney was wrong and someone else was at the Prescott house that night and really did frame Cotton. According to Gale, Mrs. Prescott was a slut and slept with almost any man that came around, and there was no way that Cotton raped her. She also says that Sidney falsely accused Cotton and that she never really saw his face that night when the "killer" was leaving the house.
Needless to say, Gale and Sidney do not get along. But that's all part of the buisness, in Gale's mind. Step on the weak to better your career.
And now, almost one year after Maureen's death, there are a new bunch of murders in Woodsboro. Could they be connected? If so, she could prove Cotton innocent and get a really big promotion, not to mention what it would do for her book sales. Just imagine all the publicity she could get.
