Professional photographer, Jeff, is confined to a wheelchair in his
New York apartment due to a broken leg.
Having nothing interesting to do, his attention is drawn to the
courtyard outside his rear window. Every day he looks at the
occupants of the apartment building which surrounds the yard.
Miss "lonelyheart" who has an imaginary lover, a composer, a
sculptress, a dancer, two newlyweds and an old couple with a
little dog. There is also a salesman and his invalid wife.
One day Jeff realizes that the woman is not in the apartment any
more. He sees the salesman going out carrying an heavy bag.
Jeff starts thinking he could have murdered his wife, so he asks his
girlfriend Lisa to investigate the fact.
While the salesman is away, Lisa enters his apartment searching
for proof of the murder, but the man comes back home and Jeff is
forced to call the police to save his girlfriend. Lisa is locked in jail,
but the salesman discovers someone is spying him.
In the night he reaches Jack's flat to kill him and the photographer
rejects him by using the flash of his camera.
The police arrive just in time to save Jeff, but the salesman hangs
him out of the window and he gets the other leg broken.

This movie makes the audience voyeurs. We watch the behaviours
and habits the people with Jeff.
Jeff's pleasure of being such a voyeur has been paid back by the risk
of being killed and breaking his other leg.
