Professional
photographer, Jeff, is confined to a wheelchair in his New York apartment due to a broken leg. Having nothing interesting to do, his attention is drawn to the courtyard outside his rear window. Every day he looks at the occupants of the apartment building which surrounds the yard. Miss "lonelyheart" who has an imaginary lover, a composer, a sculptress, a dancer, two newlyweds and an old couple with a little dog. There is also a salesman and his invalid wife. One day Jeff realizes that the woman is not in the apartment any more. He sees the salesman going out carrying an heavy bag. Jeff starts thinking he could have murdered his wife, so he asks his girlfriend Lisa to investigate the fact. While the salesman is away, Lisa enters his apartment searching for proof of the murder, but the man comes back home and Jeff is forced to call the police to save his girlfriend. Lisa is locked in jail, but the salesman discovers someone is spying him. In the night he reaches Jack's flat to kill him and the photographer rejects him by using the flash of his camera. The police arrive just in time to save Jeff, but the salesman hangs him out of the window and he gets the other leg broken. This
