Brandon and Philip share an apartment in New York. They consider themselves
superior to other people and, just as a silly game, they decide to kill their friend
David Kentley.
They strangle him with a rope and hide his body into an old chest. Then they
hold a small party at the murder scene.
The guests are David's father and girlfriend and their old school teacher Rupert
Cadell.
The boldest of the two guys, Brandon, involves Cadell by talking about murders
committed without a reason.
The buffet is prepared on the chest in which David's body lies.
Philip doesn't like his friend's behavior and starts to get worried that they could
be unmasked.
At the end of the party Cadell stays in the apartment. He suspects Brandon
and Philip and wants to find out the truth.
He forces them to confess, discovers David's body and calls the police.

The movie appears to be a single unedited shot. Editing cuts have been hidden
in close shots on the black chest or on character's jackets.
"Rope" shares a villain intent on committing the perfect murder. Brandon is sure
no one could discover his guilt.
