A Russian official defecting to the USA reveals that a French spy ring,
named Topaz, is passing NATO's secrets to the Russians.
US agent Michael Nordstrom asks his French friend Andre Devereaux
to investigate on that.
The man finds out the existence of a Russian missiles base in Cuba;
he has to go there to take some pictures and then discover the true identity
of Colombine, head of Topaz in Paris.
He successfully ends his mission, but he discovers that Colombine is Jacques
Granvill, a presidential counsellor, and he is Andre's wife lover too.
Devereaux cannot tolerate the scandal and commits suicide.

Here is another movie that Hitchcock didn't like at all; the plot seems to be
unfocused and unwieldy.
