When a review team arrives in Mt Thomas to decide if the station should be down-graded, the Heelers are thrown into a panic. It doesn't help matters that Nick is the subject of a 'Day in the Life Of' by Tony Timms, and is doing his best to show that the life of a cop is a dull one. But then a woman goes missing and Tony starts to think that Nick is having an affair with her. Maybe Tony will get a nice, juicy article out of all of this... with Nick as the subject!
Tony Timms has arrived to do an article on a day in the life of a police member. After the regulatory game of spuds the lucky specimen is decided, Snr. Constable Nick Schultz.
Not exactly thrilled about his task Nick decides to bore Tony Timms to death; showing him exciting police work like filing, checking to see who is on holidays, what the date is (something that Nick seems quite preoccupied with ), restocking the cupboards, etc. Nick then takes Tony out to do some real police work - putting petrol in the car, directing traffic around a bale of hay etc., hardly the stuff for a hard hitting news story. Tony is getting increasingly frustrated and Nick is loving every second of it. At the station some important news has hit; a review team will be arriving soon. This team will decide whether the station is to be downgraded or not. If it is, one of the Heelers will have to be transferred out of Mt Thomas! Tom tells everyone to look as busy as possible. He wants it to look like Mt Thomas is the crime capital of Australia. Then PJ remembers that Nick is out boring the pants off Tony Timms. Tom gets on the radio and tries to cryptically explain the situation but Nick hasn't got a clue. Next, Merv Poole arrives at the station and dumps a bag of rubbish on the front counter. He claims his next door neighbours, a couple of young hoons, have been putting their rubbish in his bin and he wants something done about it.
Nick and Tony go out to Merv's for a bit of community policing. Nick talks to the boys next door, Glen Cumming and Rowan Duma, and they agree to stop putting their rubbish in Merv's bin. However, there is still some lingering animosity between the boys and Merv.
Back at the station Tony launches into a speech about how the Mt Thomas police have the cushiest, most over-staffed station in the state. Matters go from bad to worse when the Heelers realise that the review team has also heard this outburst.
The review team goes off for lunch and Tom takes the opportunity to tell Nick that he must make sure that Tony sees a Mt Thomas full of crime; a place that needs every available member to police it. Opportunely Leila Clegg arrives at the station and reports that Blanche Moore hasn't delivered her sponge for the bake-off; she hopes nothing has happened to her. At this news Nick springs into action. They could have a missing woman!
Nick takes Tony to Blanche's house where they find no evidence of her. Maybe she's just lying inside dead, maybe she's hurt, may be she's not there...Nick decides to pursue further leads at the lingerie shop where she used to work. While he in interviewing staff, Tony, who has been made to sit in the car, hears a message for Nick on the radio and enters the shop to inform him. He is just in time to see Nick slip a package into his jacket. Tony is suitably intrigued.
Tony waits for Nick as he pursues another lead, but from this one he returns with a bag of groceries; he thought while he checked for Blanche at the supermarket he may as well get his shopping done. Tony is becoming more suspicious by the minute.
At the hospital Nick takes a moment to ask Zoe for a date that evening. When Tony appears Zoe is forced to play along with Nick about checking to see if Blanche Moore has a medical record. In the process she manages to give Tony the impression that Nick could be having an affair with this mysterious Blanche Moore.
Meanwhile fairly inebriated Leila tells Adam and Dash that Blanche is a very quiet and unusually tall woman; a description which only increase the confusion surrounding her. The photo from the Gazzette is also useless; it's of the cake not the woman. Tom sends out Dash and Adam to do another and more thorough search of Blanche's property. When Adam peers into a window he see a woman on the floor, he breaks in and they find she is in a coma and call the ambulance.
When Dash goes to the locker room on the way out to Blanche's she sees Tony riffling through Nick's locker. He has found a silky nightgown. Dash tells him to put it back, to stop snooping around that the nightie is not Nick's size!
Maggie reports to Tom that they have found Blanche; everyone is surprised but no one more than Nick. Tom can tell that something strange is going on and hauls Nick into the office for an explanation. Even Tom is surprised when Nick tells him about the real identity of Blanche Moore.
Then Nick and Tony are called to Merv's; the neighbourhood rivalry turning into all out war. Nick may just be able to show Tony how the police in Mt Thomas really operate. But will this be enough to curb Tony's tongue, save the station from being downgraded and Nick having rumours about his love life and choice of night attire run rampart through the town ?
