Geoffrey Rush plays the Marquis de Sade, who's only way of keeping his sanity while locked up in an insane asylum is keeping his mind occupied writing very sexually explicit books. His books get the asylum in trouble, however, and the more he is prevented from writing, the more desperate he becomes to write. The film is very violent and sexual, and seems to be trying to shock as much as possible while presenting an interesting story. The acting is very good, especially Rush. Overall, good for people who enjoy movies that showcase the lowest conditions that people can find themselves in.
