K, I was looking through all these books that my family has for stuff about the Titanic, and I kept finding all these prophecies and strange coincidences and stuff that related to the Titanic, so I thought I'd write a little about them.
The one I read the most about was a book by Morgan Robertson. It was written in 1898. The title was Futility. It's pretty much an exact replica of the actual Titanic wreck, or so I've read. I haven't read this book yet; I haven't even looked for it. But here's a list of coincidences I found in Mysteries of the Unexplained, which is a Readers Digest book:
The TitanRobertson's ship |
The Titanic | |
Month of wreck | April | April |
Passengers and crew aboard | 3000 | 2207 |
Lifeboats | 24 | 20 |
Tonnage | 75000 | 66000 |
Length | 800 feet | 882.5 feet |
Propellers | 3 | 3 |
Speed on impact | 25 knots | 23 knots |
The book I found this in credits this table to Prophecy in Our Time, by Martin Ebon. Some other things that I've read the Titanic and the Titan have in common are that they both departed from Southampton and that they both sank in the same spot.
According to another Readers Digest book called Strange Stories, Amazing Facts, another short story was written foreshadowing the wreck of the Titanic. The author was W.T. Stead. Yes, those of you buffs who are reading this, this would be the same W.T. Stead that went down with the Titanic.
K, that's all the prophecy I found about it, but here are some unusual little occurrences relating to the Titanic:
