Another character rather like Cal. She is completely spoiled, selfish, and materialistic. A character that I would just love to shove off the deck of Titanic. :-) Frances Fisher is pretty wonderful in this role. She made me hate her character, so of course she's pretty good!
Ruth is very much like Mrs. Bennet in Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. The main thing that mattered to her was money. She was a little frivolous at times, like at tea and so forth. Her quotes all made my skin crawl--the infamous, "Will the lifeboats be seated according to class?" and "You find that sort of rootless existence appealing, do you?"
Yet Ruth does have a heart after all; it is made evident in the corset scene when she says, "We're women. Our choices are never easy." And Ruth also has a childlike quality about her. Like, when Rose ran away from the lifeboat to save Jack, Ruth was upon the verge of throwing a tantrum. But it's difficult for me not to sympathize with her because in one night, everything she has ever placed any value in has been yanked away from her.
