Fire Truck or Fire Engine?
You often hear the terms Fire Truck and Fire Engine used interchangeably.
Here's how to tell the difference.
A Fire Engine has a water pump and carries water and hoses.
Engine 12 is an example of a Fire Engine.
Fire Engines are also sometimes called Pumpers.
A Fire Truck has ladders and other specialized equipment.
Truck 12 is an example of a Fire Truck.
Fire Trucks are sometimes called Aerial, or Hook and Ladder Trucks.
Now to make things confusing.
A Quintupled Engine is a cross of the two.
This is an example of a Quintupled Engine.
It has a water tower that can be used as an emergency ladder.
Water Towers are used to fight large fires.
Quintupled Engines are almost always called Quints.
