I to I, Toe to Toe
There they stand eye to eye and toe to toe.
Neither one right, yet neither one wrong.
"I was hurt by what you said," he says.
"I was hurt by what you did," she says.
There they stand eye to eye and toe to toe.
Each one defeated, yet neither claming victory.
"I'm right, you're wrong," he says.
"I'm right, you're wrong," she says.
There they stand eye to eye and toe to toe.
So close together, yet so far apart.
"I can't see things your way," he says.
"I can't see them your way either," she says.
There they stand eye to eye and toe to toe.
Not willing to walk together, yet not willing to walk away.
If only they would see the I's and stop stepping on the toes.
Together we walk through the garden
Admiring the warmth and beauty
Following the various paths
Always hand in hand
Sometimes I lead
Sometimes I follow
But I like it best when we walk side by side
I saw a rose and thought of you.
The day before today I was walking out in my garden.
It was a miserable day, cloudy and gray.
For come reason I was drawn to a single yellow rose.
The closer I got the brighter my day became.
The rose was beautiful, perfect in every way.
Each petal swirled against the next adding complexity.
Each swirl waiting to open and reveal more of their hidden mysteries.
The rose seemed to glow, and I thought of a friend.
Brilliant sun light broke though my cloudy day.
A smile broke my face. I was going to be ok.
The sky turned blue. The clouds went away.
I knew I had a friend. The friend was you.
I saw a rose and thought of you.
