My Review, Song by Song, of the Titanic Soundtrack

Composed by James Horner

Never an Absolution

-This is the very first song that you hear when the Titanic first starts. I think that it is one of my favorites. Sure, the bagpipes are a bit much, but the way that vocalist comes on so quietly and softly really sends shivers up my spine and makes me feel what I felt in the movie all over again.

Distant Memories

-This song is like no other in the soundtrack (except 13). It's got this kind of magical, thing going on. It makes me feel like this song should occur at a part where they find some treasure chest at the bottom of the ocean. This is a neat song.

Southampton

-Lots of synthesized noises and vocals in this one. It really makes me think of the Titanic and it gives me a positive emotion.

Rose

-I LOVE THIS SONG. I don't know why, maybe it reminds me of "My Heart Will Go On" but it gets me choked up when I hear this. I could listen to this song over and over again. It's just so pretty. If you listen to this song really loudly or threw headphones, you'll notice that during the middle of the song, chimes start to play in the background. I think that's pretty neat.

Leaving Port

-This is a song that sounds similar to Southampton. You have the male and female vocals and music that makes you think of large ships in the water.

Take Her To See, Mr. Murdoch

-Another ship song. I don't have anything against these songs-I think they're great, but basically the songs from this CD fall into 3 categories: love songs, ship songs, and action songs. I personally like the love songs the best, but these songs are good to.

Hard To Starboard

-This song is really awesome at the beginning. It's just one of those parts where you want to turn the sound up to maximum volume and forget about everything around you except the song. Then, it turns into an action song involving crashing of instruments, and loud, almost annoying sounds.

Unable To Stay, Unwilling to Leave

-This song is like the eye of the storm of crashing songs. It is soft, pleasant, and romantic. Beware, though, after a few minutes this song turns to more crashing and noises that sound like a train is going to crash through your wall.

The Sinking

-Another action song. Ho hum.

Death of Titanic

-Can you guess, another action song! I don't mean to dis these songs, they really set the mood in the movie, but I just can't listen to these songs for more than a few minutes.

A Promise Kept

-This song sounds pretty bad at first. Actually, to me it sounds like just a bunch of rumbling, but then, slowly, the song gets better and better and better. It's like all of the romantic songs combined, but performed much softer and sadder.

A Life So Changed

-This sounds like the first song on the track, but without the bagpipes. I like the beginning one better, though. I don't know why, it just sounds like the vocalist is singer with more feeling in the first song. Maybe it's just me.

An Ocean of Memories

-Okay, I admit, I skipped over this song the first time I got this CD because I saw that it was long and it sounded just like Distant Memories at first, but then I gave it a chance, and I really like it. It only sounds like Distant Memories for a few minutes, then it completely changes to a new song. If you haven't, give this song a try.

Hymn To the Sea

-This one sounds just like A Life So Changed and Never and Absolution. If you think about it, it's redundant, but it doesn't bother me, because each song in performed slightly different from the other. This song actually has some nice bagpipe parts towards the middle of the song. This is a combo song of everything.

SONGS THAT SHOULD BE ON THE SOUNDTRACK Well, that's it, those are my views on all the songs. If you feel differently about a certain song, E-mail me and tell me what you think. I might take your opinion into consideration.
