Marvin Agustin adheres to Jose Rizals words that the youth is the hope of the nation. He believes that educating the youth can help alleviate the countrys wobbly economy in the future. With this drive, he launched Dangal ng Bata, Dangal ng Bansa last Oct. 30 at San Vicente School in UP Bliss Philcoa, QC. Its objective is to protect the children from illiteracy through proper coordination between parents and teachers. Despite Marvins hectic schedule, he still finds time to extend a helping hand for the welfare of the children and implement such program. Dangal ng Bata is a collaboration between Marvin and Mr. Rudy Santos, a noted radio commentator and columnist. Mr. Santos is also the president of the Parent Teacher Association at San Vicente School, where he saw the need for elementary students to have the sufficient guidance of parents to extend their learning at home. Mr. Santos needed a prominent figure, who shared the same vision and would help him propagate his plans for the children. He mentioned it to Marvin and the teen idol readily agreed to spearhead the program. Presently, the group is planning their first project for Dangal ng Bata, Dangal ng Bansa. Teen icon Jolina Magdangal, who continuously receives accolades from the fields of entertainment and education, was recently bestowed by the Department of Health the honor of being the countrys first National Youth Advocate. She will fulfill her responsibilities, working hand in hand with no less than First Lady, Dr. Loi Ejercito and the Department of Health (DOH) as head agency, United Nations Childrens Fund (UNICEF), World Health Organization (WHO), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Philippine Pediatric Society (PDS) and rotary clubs in creating awareness, providing inspiration, and encouraging the youth to actively participate in issues concerning the promotion of health, family, social and cultural values. The Philippine Measles Elimination Campaign, which is a global concern of UNICEF and WHO, will serve as her first commitment as the National Youth Advocate.
