Chris Farley - Beverly Hills Ninja
Farley's third major movie was Beverly Hills Ninja. This one is just about what you'd expect from the title. Not exactly Cannes Film Festival fare, but the idea alone had many people already laughing. Farley doing drop kicks and swinging nunchuks? What a great premise to take advantage of his physical humor and athleticism. (Have you ever seen another 300 lb man move like that? The man was an athlete!) The movie was of course funny, more in some parts than others. Farley's impersonations, both of the banker in the office and of the cook at the Chinese restaurant were highlights. Overall, however, the script tended to rely on the physical aspects without allowing for Farley to use his comic abilities in any other ways. Farley's devoted fans once again flocked to "Ninja" as it debuted #1 again, and produced a final box-office gross of $31.2 million. This success clearly established Farley closer to the level of Jim Carrey, Robin Williams, and other high-profile comedic actors. Chris Rock also starred in the movie as a bellhop. |
