Bret Hart Biography-A Quick look at Excellence

Now if you are visiting this site then you probably know who Bret Hart is. This is just a quick summary of his career if you want his life story then get the Bret Hart Biography that comes out March 2000. Another source for information on Bret’s life would be his video Hitman Hart Wrestling With Shadows. This documentary has a big focus on the whole Montreal Survivor Series incident. The most infamous incident in wrestling history. On to Bret’s career. Bret never envisioned himself as a wrestler but instead he had ambitions of studying film. He got into wrestling because his father Stu Hart who ran Calgary based wrestling promotion Stampede Wrestling need more guys for his shows and because of that Bret was thrown right into the mix. Because of his strong amateur background Bret was able to become a prowrestler without to much trouble. Vince McMahon eventually came along and bought the Stampede territory and with that he got Bret. The Hitman was born. Bret originally started in the WWF as a tag team with his brother in law Jim “Anvil” Niedhart they were the Hart Foundation and they went on to capture many WWF tag titles. As great as that was Bret was too good to just be a tag team wrestler. The team eventually broke up and Bret was a singles wrestler. His big break came at SummerSlam 91 in Madison Square Garden in New York City where Bret Hart defeated Mr. Perfect to capture his first WWF Intercontinental Title. Bret would go on to win many major titles and other big matches at MSG in NYC. The Hitman would win that title a couple more times. Bret then went after the WWF world title. He defeated Ric Flair in Saskatoon to capture his first of 5 WWF world titles. Bret’s career with the WWF ended at the Survivor Series in 1997 when Bret had the title stolen from him by Vince McMahon when he told the ref to stop the match and award Shawn Michales the belt even though it was very clear that Bret never gave up in that match for complete report of what happened I highly suggest that you watch Hitman Hart Wrestling with Shadows it explains everything. Bret then moved to WCW. Unfortunately WCW has not been able to use Bret the way he should be. Bret has been moved from storyline to storyline faster then anybody. He has won many titles in WCW. He is a four time United States champ, one time tag champ and one time world champ. His biggest moment came April 21st in Toronto at WCW Mayhem (which I was at). WCW was finishing a 32 man tournament to crown a new world champ. Bret defeated Sting and Chris Benoit in a classic match to capture the world title but then WCW threw him in with a nWo storyline which did not fit Bret at all. Bret was stripped of the title a few months later at Souled Out where he could not wrestle because of a concussion suffered at the hands of Bill Goldberg. Bret however is the only man to beat Goldberg twice. Let’s hope that WCW is able to utilize Bret in the future.
